This is the elephant in the room that the conservatives here don't want to address, so as usual they deflect.
I'm not sure I understand the point here
To me the elephant is that the governor should morally stand up against these antiquated laws!
In fact, he should apologize for the state having them in the first place!
A mixed couple going to a prom should not be news anywhere today.

As An elected official you should always be separating his personal opinions from his official statements. His personal opinion should never be part of an official statement.
Republicans can't get the Africsn-Amerixan vote because they have allowed Democrats to paint them a certain way.
Why the Governor of a State would be asked about a local issue. It's not a state issue. There was no answer he could have given that would not have pissed some people off. He should have just refused to answer the question.
Preventing racial discrimination is not a personal opinion, its part of his role as governor. The fact that he cannot legally intervene in no way prevents him from making public statement to provide leadership on the issue. Its especially important given Georgia's history that he sets a strong example about how the government will no longer tolerate this kind of behavior.

2013 and still trying to figure if we should desegregate. Amazing but not surprizing.

I can understand folks bellyaching over him saying " no comment"... but it seem to me that you are saying the government should have a say in who you allow to attend your privately hosted party.
segregation has never been an issue..... legal segregation has always been the issue.
folks tend to self segregate anyways( based on many things, sex, race, economic class, etc)... it's not an evil thing.
I didn't realize this was still such a big ****ing deal.
If I am racist trash who bans black people from my party, it is entirely appropriate for the governor to exercise his right to free speech and condemn my immoral actions.
what if you ban white people from your party?.... are you still racist trash?... or are you just the congressional black caucus?
That depends. Was the congressional black caucus formed specifically for the purpose of excluding white people because they were deemed inferior?
bzzzt..... the correct answer was.... "racist trash".
it doesn't "depend"... according to you previous statement it' "always wrong", correct?

You are trying to lamely create the illusion "hypocrisy" by pretending the congressional black caucus is somehow even vaguely comparable to segregated prom held by a bigoted town in Georgia. It only appeals to those grossly ignorant of history. The congressional black congress exists to discuss legislative issues with regards to the black community, segregated proms exist because a group of people in Georgia hate blacks.

you seem to be arguing with yourself here.... it's "always wrong" or not?
I said racism is always wrong. I have clearly demonstrated why the segregated prom is racist and congressional black caucus is not.
so racism is always wrong, but racial segregation is only sometimes wrong..... mmmmk.
