I didn't see this coming!! I knew that G W Bush would be for Liz Cheney, but to hold a fundraiser for her surprised me.

Divisions within the GOP could deepen between the party's Trump wing and other Republicans, with former President George W. Bush set to back Representative Liz Cheney ahead of the 2022 midterms.

Bush is scheduled to hold his first campaign event for the 2022 races in October in Dallas. It will mark a rare appearance from the 43rd president.

The fundraiser, first reported by Politico, signals that Cheney, who is fighting to hold on to her seat, is making use of her ties to Bush. The third-term congresswoman is the daughter of Dick Cheney, who served as Bush's former vice president during his two terms as president.

Why is this surprising? Dick Cheney was Bushs VP for 8 years. Why wouldnt he support his daughters re-election? Will it make a difference? No, probably not. But the interesting thing here is that in the eyes of the left, Bush was Hitler long before Trump came along and Cheney was Satan. Now you guys are cheering for Hitler and Satan's daughter. We live in strange times.

It's surprising because Bush has been soooo retired, while picture painting his ass off in mostly seclusion from the media.

Did you read anything by me in the op cheerleading Bush and Cheney?

Don't count on the Republican rank and file to give a shit about GW Bush. Especially in Wyoming, now that she's shown her true colors and Georgie has shown his.

The only people who care are the big money donors and lobbyists who don't want to see their pet congresswoman go down the tubes.

That surely will be the main attraction to watch for after G W Bush fundraises for Cheney. I'll be watching for any poll bumps - down or up.

Pro tip: There's only one poll that matters.

Bush isn't a big star in the GOP these days.

Not surprised one Warhawk is supporting another with the Donald as the common enemy…

Good for him. Unlike Trump's idiotic fan base, he knows a real Republican.

Criticizing Trump is verboten. That's all she did. But the Trump fans hate her because she put country before Trump.

It won't work. Today's Republican party is still too far gone. She's done.

true

true

Upon which Donny has been hit with the truth, in which he most always attacks those who outs him. Basically, in short, he's made himself an enemy.

No doubt. Violating the Eleventh Commandment was the epitome of hubris.

IIRC there were a couple times between 2016-2020 where Dubya threw some sideline shade at Trump. I remember being surprised about it, for the reasons you state - I thought he was done with both politics and media after he left the WH.

Second this. Her criticism of Trump made her a pariah in Red State America.
She was censured by her own party in her own state. I have no idea what her future will be - most likely a military supply lobbyist or CEO of a defense manufacturer like her Dad. Then, when she's elected president she, too can lie to the American people and start a tragic, illegal war.

Yes criticizing the president of your party when he’s highly popular amongst the party rank and file will lead a decline in your popularity

The days of her party condemning corruption in the ranks is gone.

It's a fundraising event and will probably be successful, as the well-heeled Republicans are more educated and feel more secure in their social position than the poor saps who support Trump.

The Bushes, the Clintons, the Cheneys... When will America wake up and realize that they are one of reasons an anti-establishment outsider like Trump was elected.

It won't work. Today's Republican party is still too far gone. She's done.

You have it backwards. Today's Republican Party is no longer about the monarchy; the Bush's, the Cheneys, the Clintons who are all, for the most part, gone, yesterday's news, stink a fork in 'em... They're done. ;)

Your idea of real Republicans is a party who turns the blind eye to open borders, supports big bloated trillion dollar bills, and leaving our citizens behind in Afghanistan?

My, how times have changed with "real Republicans"....

Your post made me wonder if Bush has publicly said anything about what's happening on the border. I couldn't find anything which is odd seeing that he's a Texan.
