Gay Military

I see no problem with allowing gays to serve openly in the military, if they can do the job then what the hell is the problem? Ive had some experience with the military and the arguments about morality or needing "the right kind of people" are baseless. Anyone who's ever been in the military, especially if they've been enlisted, knows just how stupid and immoral soldiers can be. During one of my training events everyone in my barracks was a total womanizer, and would brag about all the things they'd done to women. So I don't see how thats any better than having a soldier who likes to have sex with others of the same gender. A person's sex life is private and has no place in military matters at any time or place, since sex is banned during all official activities whats the damn difference.

I also have a few friends who are gay and want to join the military or were in the military and were forced to leave for being gay.

Not if you look at it from a historical perspective.

I think the Sacred Band of Thebes might disgaree with you here.

Aside from that, I'm not sure there are any all-gay army groups to draw comparisons with.

Gay men have been openly showering in high school locker rooms no problem for a while now. Do you think soldiers are less disciplined that a bunch of high school kids? Furthermore, even men and women showering together isn't that big of a deal.

We don't. However, unless you want to kick out hetero's for revealing that they have wives and girlfriends, that doesn't hold water. Sexuality has no relevance to military operations, and thus kicking people out for it is stupid.

I was referring to your absurd statement that non-twink gays like being forced in the closet. I agree the military is not is the business of empathy, and thus kicking out competent soldiers because some frightened ***** can't handle being around a gay dude is a bad policy.

Maybe we could start in highschool or junior high then as girls could shower with boys so that when they are of age to join the military we wouldn't have to have separate quarters because the kids would be used to showering together? No walls in the bathroom stalls either like the military. Our kids girls and boys could sh&t side by side as well? Why should we raise our girls and boys to be such candy a#ses anyway?

The fact is that a lot of straight men wouldn't appreciate being ogled much in the same way that women in the military wouldn't want to shower with men and be ogled. Society has already demonstrated this with separate rest rooms, shower facilities no matter where you go, the majority of facilities are separate...are they not? Is there no good reason for this?

Wouldn't it be better to just create a gay navy, airforce, army and marine corp? You would achieve your goal of having gays be openly gay right?

Would a 100% gay military be just as competent as a 100% hetero military?

I find the question absurd, given that the current military is not 100% anything... not white, straight, male, etc. I support a military that is staffed by individuals who perform at their 100% best, have been screened for 100% competence, and whose services are valued 100%.

Who they are ethnically or sexually is irrelevant to me, though, for the record, I am against the idea of gay people having to suppress who they are. We're not talking about them ticking a box on a form declaring themselves as gay so that it can be announced to everyone, but they should be permitted to talk freely with their military peers in their off hours if they want.

If straight men can flaunt photos of their wives or sexy girlfriends while in the field, it should be acceptable for gay men/women to do the same. "Don't ask, don't tell" is predicated on the belief that gay men are less manly and they will bring down the masculine image of the military, when in reality some of the most masculine men I have ever met have been homosexual.

The stereotyping needs to end and reality needs to set in.

I've served with gay members of the armed forces, they weren't "officially gay" obviously, but it was for the most part an open secret. And they acted and did everything their straight counterparts did, when there was an opportunity for a shower either in the barracks or in the field they showered with the rest of us. Why was it tolerated? Because there was nothing to tolerate, someone who didn't already know would assume they were straight because they acted no differently than anyone else. No one felt uncomfortable in the shower, no was ogled, no problems came up. They did their job just as well as anyone else, so they were just as welcome as anyone else.
Believe it or not people can actually control their sex drive, so if my gay buddy ever thought I was good looking it never came up, he never stared at me in the shower, got a hard-on, or anything else insane.

Quick edit: I do have one gay friend who was in the military but was found out when someone he trusted with his secret told someone who didn't like the fact that he was gay and ratted him out. Anyway he was a better than average soldier and loved being in the Army and to this day would gladly go back if they let him. I seems ridiculous to deny this perfectly capable and skilled soldier a place in the Army while at the same time the SecDef is trying to expand the Army by another 22000 soldiers.
