Gas prices sink Obama’s ratings on economy, bring parity to race for White House
By Dan Balz and Jon Cohen,
Disapproval of President Obama’s handling of the economy is heading higher — alongside gasoline prices — as a record number of Americans now give the president “strongly” negative reviews on the 2012 presidential campaign’s most important issue, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Increasingly pessimistic views of Obama’s performance on the economy — and on the federal budget deficit — come despite a steadily brightening employment picture and other signs of economic improvement, and they highlight the political sensitivity of rising gas prices.
The potential political con*sequences are clear, with the *rising public disapproval reversing some of the gains the president had made in hypothetical general-election matchups against possible Republican rivals for the White House. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and former senator Rick Santorum (Pa.) now both run about evenly with Obama. The findings come just five weeks after Obama appeared to be getting a boost from the improving economy.
Gas prices are a main culprit: Nearly two-thirds of Americans say they disapprove of the way the president is handling the situation at the pump, where rising prices have already hit hard. Just 26 percent approve of his work on the issue, his lowest rating in the poll. Most Americans say higher prices are already taking a toll on family finances, and nearly half say they think that prices will continue to rise, and stay high.

Uh ... I hate to break it to you, but Obama's approval rating is pretty steady between 46 and 50% and has been for a while. Gallup has him at 49% today. Keep wishin' and a hopin' though! :rofl
No wishing required.
More Americans still disapproving of Obama than approving!

In January’s NBC/WSJ poll, Romney’s favorable/unfavorable rating stood at 31 percent to 36 percent among all respondents (and 22/42 percent among independents).
But in this latest survey, it’s now 28 percent favorable and 39 percent unfavorable (and 22/38 percent among independents).
In fact, Romney’s image right now is worse than almost all other recent candidates who went on to win their party’s presidential nomination

Hoist on his own petard, ya gotta love it. Obama and the Democrats were all over the Republicans like a cheap suit regarding gas prices in 2008. Life is just so good when what goes around, come back around to the originators. Liberals made a big issue of gas prices in 2008, including Obama's infamous speech in a gas station with the price board over his shoulder. I hope he enjoys the colonoscopy he's getting with his own argument. Enjoy Barry, we conservative certainly are.
So if it was wrong then why is it ok now? I get what you are saying but it makes you sound kinda like a hypocrite.
And then the republicans run a clown out there and ruin your delusion.

Poll: Obama's approval rating sinks to new low - Political Hotsheet - CBS News
His approval rating is below the 46-50% as of today. But people are weak minded and the minds will change 1000 times by election day. All these numbers mean little.
That's one poll out of many. Gallup, for example, has his approval at 49%. The RCP composite has it at 46.6%.
Well, it changes one thing.
I guess someone should point out that Democrats were against "drill baby drill" in 2008 and they're still against it now. Obama was saying the same things in 2006 that he's saying now: there are no quick fixes that government can implement to move gas prices in a significant way. The only solution is to reduce demand and speed development of alternative energy.
Someone posted this Youtube clip -- apparently to show that Obama is being hypocritical -- but it demonstrates just the opposite:

So you're just as bad as those that complained in 2008. Not exactly a shining moment for you is it?
