Game Hunter Trampled To Death By Elephant

He's just regurgitating all that Ricky Gervais tripe.

Hogwash. Politics has nothing to do with this nor does this alleged altruistic conservationism

The posed nature of the photograph and the expression on her face tells you all you need to know about her true motivations.

What a truly sick perspective on trophy hunting

Almost as sick as cheering the death of human beings

Having actually been on safari in Tsavo national Park ,Kenya the last thing in the world I would want to do is kill one of these majestic creatures and then be photographed sitting and proudly smiling next to it.

Then don't. Problem solved. Don't think anyone was forcing you either. But don't try to slam your neigh religious beliefs down other people's throats. Other people have differing opinions on hunting and trophy hunting.

first you think you know more about the state of the species than the government who licensed this hunter and now you presume to know her motivations

I call BS to both. But we know your motivations. You don't like people owning guns-you are on record as a gun banner and your hatred spills over to hunters.

I bet my last dollar that trophy hunters do far more for conservation and the preservation of trophy species than anti hunting whiners who want to attribute their own stilted and extreme concept of morality to others

Trophy hunting by simply killing for its own sake is immoral, plain and simple. I make no apologies for holding that view

Meh, the large farm practices of raising genetically modified chickens are FAR worse than legal, controlled, and regulated trophy hunting. You don't need to apologize for your religion, it's just that most people don't care to have it jammed down their throats and forced to obey it.

Last time I checked we actually ate those chickens .....not giraffes

This village not only ate it... They also received the bone and carcase for use in building etc. It also gave an old dying animal some peace.

great and we hold the view that your beliefs are both silly and should be ignored by hunters. your opinion on that lady hunter is really extreme and to denigrate her and insinuate she is morally bankrupt is in itself morally bankrupt

applying facts to the Bambist views is often amusing.

I remember when my father-then trying to break the world record for tarpon taken on 12 pound test line was castigated by a Bambist over him noting that before they fished an area, they caught as many sharks as they could because sharks tended to destroy fish that were on line (fish that would be returned to the water after being measured)

this woman screamed that there was no evidence that sharks did this

until the captain of the boat noted that tarpon is what was used as BAIT for those sharks!

Thanks for the support.

I think Zimbabwe and South Africa also have healthy populations of game animals. At the end of the day, big game industry that gives back to local communities makes the animals far too valuable to kill frivoulessly. Heck, I would not be surprised if some out fitters will track and trap livestock eating predators and relocate them as predators saved by relocation can be sold for big bucks in well managed hunts.

Then factor in the support that wealthy safari hunters give to high end fire arms companies. The safari game hunter that I knew had a collection of Weatherby rifles and rifles made by an expensive French company (the name escapes me). Not to mention a Berretta shotgun with custom engraving.

This is not the same woman or giraffe Gervais was on about and this isn't hunting

And of course it gave a smiling trophy hunter the chance to kill a large stationary target at close range with a high powered rifle. Must have taken a lot of hunting skill that . I would be a good deal more convinced of her alleged altruistic motivations were she not quite so visibly happy about doing it. The photo pretty much speaks for itself

Though I cant read her mind, I noticed that she is slim, trim and does not have a wedding ring on.

That, and her in all probability wise conservationist views as a sportswoman would make her uhmm...."fair game" for me- had not my hunting permit been revoked twenty years ago by my wife.

Nonsense. Unless someone is poaching (the real crime) the locals get the animal, end of story. Does not matter who shoots it. Thinning the herd is as necessary for them as it is for deer here.

I surely hope it was a stationary target harvested at close range.... that provides a much better chance for a clean kill.

I really don't care.

I think big game hunting is for idiots.

I also think trampling hunters is for idiots.

The quadrapedal idiot won this time, I'm sure us bipedalists will be back in there to even the score.

I'd seriously doubt that the primary motivation for such hunting trips is altruistic conservation.

It doesn't matter what the motivation is , the net result is the same.

Just to point out that what you described was most likely completely illegal.. and at the very least completely unethical and you would be hard pressed to find any hunting organization that would support the above and would most likely be adamantly against it.

AS far as why hunt an elephant or giraffe? I know for myself an elephant would be an extreme thrill... one that takes skill, patience, endurance, more than a bit of luck and a very good dose of danger. AND my participation in hunting is proven to improve elephant numbers and herd health, improve animal habitat..and overall, be better for the environment.

I haven't eaten any elephant or giraffe lately nor have I used their skins. I seriously doubt that our deceased hunter was just about to either

Actually he likely would have.. as would the whole community in the area he was hunting.

Yep... it probably makes her proud. I know I would be. And yes.. she is very conservation minded.

Its attitudes like yours that have led in part to the extinction and continued extinction of animals all over the planet.

From the poachers side.. its about a few things... first of all... they don;t care.. its about money.. and they get money not only from the tusks.. but from skins. from the penis etc. (Asian medicine and all).

Plus.. many of the poachers are often local farmers that have absolutely no lover for elephants.. that eat their crops.. bust their fences, flatten houses, and ruin water supplies. \

That's why sport hunting has been so helpful in curbing local poaching and in improving elephant herds. With sport hunting, now the animal has a value to the local farmer. Now they have tourism dollars, meat, so on and so forth.. that makes the elephant valuable instead of simply a nuisance.

If the world community was smart.. they would allow ivory taken from licensed kills to be sold.. undercutting the black market and reducing the money from poaching. but emotions and stupidity are in great supply versus common sense..
