He must not have been so sure of his innocence given he asked someone in the Administration to ask Trump for a pardon. Doesn't change the fact that he is a scumbag.
 
I could see the prosecutors' concerns with the credibility of Greenburg. But there's problems with the credibility of the victim?

The article only expounded upon Greenburg's deficits. But if the alleged victim can't get her testimony straight, yeah that is a problem.

Nothing so granular, but the facts of the accusation were extremely simple. You could understand a federal investigation taking this long for white collar crime, but not for something so straightforward as this.
 
If you want to commit a crime, get a wingman to help, but ensure that wingman is a rampant law-breaker. This will ensure the wingman's testimony cannot be used against you in building a case?
Sheesh.

Gaetz didn't need that pardon he sought from Trump after all.

I though perhaps the delays were due to Greenburg being busily involved in multiple investigations turning state's evidence.

There's also the nature of the crime itself. Is a 40 year old paying a 17 year old for sex a crime? Yes. Is it bad? Oh, you betcha. But as a federal prosecutor, do you know you're going to get a conviction, even if you have an airtight case? Not so sure about that, are you?
 
At least MSNBC will have to quit trotting Gaetz’s, “conviction is coming any day now!”

The point was never to pursue real charges. The point was a political smear and, that having been accomplished, it's time to move on to the next smear.

This is the MO of the democrats. We call it "Lawfare" and the objective is to get as many cases against political opposition as possible into the public sphere and to do so WITHOUT any trials because once the trial hits the opposition can present their own narrative and the LAST thing Democrats want is for that to happen.

Yeah, like the Hunter Biden case. They bury that shit instead of investigate it. That's the "B side" plan to the "A side" plan I cited above.

As far as Trump facing criminal charges, don't count on it. The cases are most likely to all be civil because of the lower standard to convict.

It wasn't lawfare. He had sex with a 17-year-old girl and then paid for it.

That might be considered okay by the right, to the rest of us, it is a felony.

The fact that you don't like to see right-wing KKK scumbags get held accountable is irrelevant.

Using the term "lawfare" is defending him.
