Sounds good to me.
The right thing to do is for the House Republicans to pass a bill with substantial tax and spending cuts. Then depart and leave the One and his minions in the Senate to decide what to do.
If the House had caved on tax increases it would have been the end of the Republican party. If the Republican party chooses not to stand on principal they might as well be Democrats. With any good fortune this will be the end of Boehner and Cantor.
Actually, it looks as if it hasn't. That is why it is a good day and a great evening. Boehner's planned sell-out was to occur this evening. There are men and women of principle and courage in the House of Representatives after all.
So Boehner and Cantor need to be stripped of their power and relegated to the cloak room.
Given that this is about taking a principled standing you might not understand it. I think it is the best news we have had in a month. We might save this Republic yet! If we need someone to hold our coats I will call you, okay?

Those $800 Billion in defense cuts are not enough to save us, but they are a start. I'd like that doubled.
It worked well enough that the Republicans retained the House.yeah, because that worked so well last election. the country that told you to be moderate is really just waiting for the republicans to go more right so we can get a worthwhile party to replace them. That sounds about right to me.
Neither you nor Boehner understand how much power the Republicans have. The House can drive the national narrative. If the Republicans cave as Boehner attemted to force them to do the Republican party will never again see power nor have an opportunity to govern. If the Republican party passes a responsible budget, which I understand they have then it is up to the Senate and what's his name in the White House to take the next step.Don't get all superior, the reps will either cave or they will go over the cliff and take the blame for not compromising at all. people are sick of their bull, and last election showed it. only a small vocal minority wants this partisan bull, and now they get to take the blame because obama has clearly compromised, and all the lies in the world are not going to cover that up come the cliff. Those in your party who want re-election will cave, and that will give the dems what they need.
You guys just love the losing thing. it helps your victim narrative so much
Whatever. I imagine you prefer the nation defenseless. I am sure what is uppermost in many democrats minds is "how will the cliff impact my government handouts?"Those $800 Billion in defense cuts are not enough to save us, but they are a start. I'd like that doubled.

I do not believe the election showed much of anything except that more than half of all democrats and about one-fourth of Republicans (we call these Establishment Republicans) have positive views of the most tyrannical form of government - Socialism.
As far as what's his name's compromise there was no compromise. Nice try though - being all dictator-like and all.
Looks like the bohner screwed the pooch this time. What the hell, its only a speed bump that the media has labeled a fiscal cliff anyway.
<WASHINGTON – House Republican leaders abruptly pulled their fallback tax bill from the floor Thursday night, conceding that they did not have the votes to pass it.>
< The struggle to win Republican support for a measure that would allow income taxes to rise on a sliver of the top one percent of taxpayers telegraphed a grave decision for the speaker.>
< House Republican leadership aides made clear that if the bill passes, the speaker believes the next move will have to come from Senate Democrats and the president. Senate Democrats could simply take up and pass the House bill or amend it more to their liking and send it back to the House.>

It does not surprise me that you have no understanding about our system of national governance. The House is not to be a rubber stamp for the President. They are a check upon the tyranny of the presidency. One branch of Govt. is not supposed to govern. The House's duty is to find compromises that can move the country forward. They have failed at their duty again. They will be voted out in 2014.
So you believe that on top of the 400 plus billion in current cuts plus the additional (what is it 800 billion cuts) that doubling those will not leave the nation defenseless?Yes because any defense cuts means people want the nation defensless.

Awesome.
I served in the US Army for twenty years. How about you?No, we will not be "defensless". Join the military and learn something will you?

Believe as you wish. I am proud that the Tea Party Conservatives are men and women of courage and principle. Given your lean it makes sense that you do not recognize either.
I hope that last night's victory signalled a revolt by the Tea Party Conservatives that will sweep Boehner and Cantor from power. I hope that last night was signal that Republicans will no longer go along with the massive theft this president is executing against the future generations of Americans who do not yet have a voice.
If they are voted out as you believe then it does signal that this nation's future has been checkmated.
My view is the opposite. Last night's victory by Tea Party Conservatives gives me great hope for our future. You can come along for the ride if you like. Unlike what's his name in the White House we won't make you sit in the back of the bus.

I suppose we will find out. Won't we.Enjoy those T's while they last. They are at the end of their rope and their fates are sealed.
You don't for a moment think the directed "Green" parts of the defense budget will be cut do you? These are real cuts. We will have fewer Navy ships, less steaming time, we will have fewer Air Force flying squadrons with less flying time. We will have fewer Marines and less training time. We will have fewer Army Brigade Combat Teams and less training time.Same, we wouldn't be defensless if those cuts happen. With many of the pork projects that are done in the name of defense spending such as an aircraft that is less effective than what it was supposed to replace. Why do we need more carriers? We don't.
There are lots of things that can be cut without making us defensless (which is hyperbole).

Yes. I completely disagree with your moment of sunshine. I lived through the Carter years and the peace dividend cuts of the Clinton years. Both hollowed out the military. Both caused deep, sustained damage to our ability to defend the nation. We paid for it the way we always pay for it. We paid in soldiers blood.

There is a timeline issue. Some things can be improved by an infusion of cash. I can remember having 10 training bullets per soldier per quarter. One does not remain proficient with one's weapons firing three rounds per month.A "hollowed out" military that fought 2 wars simultaneously? We spend over 60% of our budget on the military and it needs to stop. We are not the worlds policeman.
OMG the hyperbole from you is astounding. You act as though we are going to go down to ONE carrier, ONE fighter aircraft, etc.
The defense budget is NOT A BLANK CHECK. There HAS to be cuts. Are you seriously saying that there should be NO cuts to defense spending?
