Anyone that surprised by this is just not paying attention.
Democrats clearly stating that they don't care about women at all, and will gladly exchange their pain, suffering, and death for votes, illegal or not.
What a great party.

Full List of 158 Democrats Who Voted Against Sex Crime Ban on Immigrants

More than 150 Democrats voted against Republican Representative Nancy Mace's bill that would ensure undocumented immigrants convicted of sex offenses are deported or deemed inadmissible to the country.
The Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act passed in a 266-158 vote on Wednesday. Every Republican present voted for the bill, as did 51 Democrats, while 158 Democrats voted against it.
The bill would also deport or deem inadmissible to the country undocumented immigrants who have been convicted of, or admit to having committed, sex offenses, domestic violence, stalking, child abuse or violating a protection order.

It comes as immigration is among the most important issues on the minds of voters ahead of November's election, with former President Donald Trump and Republicans repeatedly claiming that President Joe Biden's immigration policies have led to a spike in violent crime by people who are in the country illegally. Studies have generally found no link between immigration and violent crime.

Mace told WCIV in Charleston, South Carolina, that the legislation will protect women across the country.

"We are fed up with headlines about women losing their lives or becoming victims of assailants who trespassed into our country illegally under the Biden-Harris border crisis," Mace said. "This legislation sends a strong message: If you are an illegal who has committed acts of violence against women, you will not find sanctuary here."

She said those opposing the bill "voted against deporting rapists, pedophiles and murderers of women and kids."

Opponents of the bill said it was demonizing immigrants.

Representative Pramila Jayapal said the bill would hurt survivors of domestic violence, whom she said are often arrested, charged and convicted along with their abusers.

Because this bill duplicates existing law except it creates an excessively broad definition of who will deported - it doesn't guarantee victims aren't included in the round up.

Any links to the actual bill so we can see what else might be included in it besides the headlines above? Unfortunately in todays politically motivated media it's become super important to look deep behind the potentially partisan headlines.

Democrats don’t vote for a performative GOP bill - that’s already covered by federal deportation laws.

Because this bill duplicates existing law except it creates an excessively broad definition of who will deported - it doesn't guarantee victims aren't included in the round up.

And it doesn’t just apply to “illegals”, it applies to IMMIGRANTS. Even those here legally.

Elon Musk’s one engineer could be packing his bags if this becomes law

Ohh.. is it a newsflash that it is currently "force poison pill hard votes for politics" season?

This might resonate with a few in the gullible masses, here it is quite the huge ****ing YAWN.

And it doesn’t just apply to “illegals”, it applies to IMMIGRANTS. Even those here legally.
Grounds of removability apply only to people here legally. If an alien enters unlawfully, they are still subject to the grounds of inadmissibility because the United States was deprived of the opportunity to inspect the alien.

That's not what they said. They said it was 'demonizing immigrants' - except that it 'demonizes' people who are in the country illegally and are convicted of, or admit to having committed, sex offenses, domestic violence, stalking, child abuse or violating a protection order.

"Opponents of the bill said it was demonizing immigrants. Representative Pramila Jayapal said the bill would hurt survivors of domestic violence, whom she said are often arrested, charged and convicted along with their abusers. "

Quick google search (first result). It's actually a short bill that contains pretty much what was stated in the article, plus definitions.

Yep.

All performance. No substance.

Don't pretend that Magas give 2 shits about women.

Opponents of the bill said it was demonizing immigrants.

These are the words of the article author. Not the quoted words of Rep Jayapal.

Edited to correct spelling

Thanks. Doesn't look too contentious. Had to laugh though when I see one of the two key sponsors is Boebert, whose young son has recently been arrested for making a sex tape with a minor. Assumedly she thinks that is OK and will defend him while vilifying others. Seems she likes to preach rather than practice??? Not really appropriate for Boebert to be sponsoring any bills around sexual protections.

We now live in a world where a major V-POTUS candidate says it doesn't matter if immigrants are here legally, they get deported ANYWAY.
And you think you're calling Dems on the carpet for rejecting a bill that was pure theater?

Stop underestimating the intelligence of the American people.

Good on the Democrats.
It is a pointless bill that only duplicates existing federal deportation laws and state federal laws on crime and violence against women.

...ah, yet another disingenuous soap box post. Almost any bill passed after July 1 on an election year is highly suspect as this is the season of show votes. This one is no exception. Most smart people here see through this, especially given this bill was put forth by one of the least credible members of Congress. No one is interested in shallow political grandstanding nor in disingenuous posts on DP. Don't trip getting off your soap box as no one is likely to notice.

BTW.... we had a pretty solid immigration bill that TFG shot down because he didn't want any progress made on the issue as he needed something to grandstand on. "Blame it on me", Trump says. We'll do! Just another example that Republicans offer no solutions to problems facing this country, just rhetoric. Speaking of shallow rhetoric, anyone that understands this issue knows that the crime rate among illegals is less than 1/2 that of the crime rate of native born Americans. This bill also "addresses" a problem that simply does not exist, but that is the Republican MO, create a problem, put fear into the minds of fellow Americans and run on it (see also migrants flowing across the border, not true; problems with election integrity, including illegals voting, not true and inflation is out of control, also not true.)

Trump loves the uneducated, but he does not like those of us that are actually know what is going on in America, because they are not voting for him.

Because it is as the Representative said, the victims of domestic violence among immigrants are oftten arrested, charged and convicted along with their abusers. And also rapists and pedophiles already are deported.

Libs adore sex criminals and want to bring more of them in. News at 11.

Since you read the bill, who is inadmissible under 8 USC 1182(a)(2) as written today?

It also deports VICTIMS. Domestic violence is already a deportable offense. Why do we need a duplicate law?
