ABC suspends Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely over his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death

This action was done by Brendan Carr (Secretary of the FCC - appointed by Donald Trump).

What makes this action even worse is that Carr has been a strong proponent of Free Speech in the past, and here he goes and attacks Free Speech.

Here are Carr's comments in the past about Free Speech

In 2019 he said: "Should the government censor speech it doesn't like? Of course not. The FCC does not have a roving mandate to police speech in the name of the 'public interest'".

In 2023 he said: "Free speech is the counterweight—it is the check on government control. That is why censorship is the authoritarian’s dream".

In 2024 he said: “A lot of social media companies have embraced, or re-embraced, the idea of free speech online, I think Elon Musk and X had a great deal to do with that. I was pleased to see Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook join him, but clearly there’s more we can do.”

Now and after this suspension of Kimmel was done, this was Carr's comment" "Local broadcasters have an obligation to serve the public interest. While this may be an unprecedented decision, it is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community values. I hope that other broadcasters follow Nexstar's lead."

This OP is not about Kimmel himself. I never was a fan of Kimmel as I am against all extremes and Kimmel was all about Trump every show. Too much (in my opinion). Nonetheless, first was Steven Colbert and now Jimmy Kimmel and who is next?

Here is the comment from the ACLU after this event:

This OP is about Free Speech, which is a right given to us by the Constitution and one we have strongly defended throughout the lifetime of our country. It also about Carr's turnaround from a supporter of Free Speach to a man that torpedoes it (loyalty to Trump).

It is evident that Free Speech is being attacked and is losing the battle.

I think this is wrong.

Kimmel's remark wasn't free speech, it was a lie that he knew was a lie, and if he didn't he should have based on the murderers comments and actions. Kimmel didn't exercise his right of free speech because his speech was intended to incite more discord and he knew that. What he did is the same as the common example of yelling fire in a crowded theater to cause a panic when there is no fire.
The left needs to stop their shitty little agenda of lies and far, far, left claims that facts don't support.

Prove what Kimmel said is a lie.

Then prove that Kimmel knew it was a lie.

Do this by providing copies and pastes of excerpts from credible sources to which you provide the links.

Please quote the lie.

It wasn't a lie though. And it's a comedy show.

We know what MAGA is really after with all this, parading around Kirk's corpse for political gains.

The politization of this tragedy by the right is much more egregious than anything Kimmel did

@Integrityrespec has yet to prove his or her or their claims that what Kimmel said was a "lie" and that Kimmel knew is it was a "lie".

But you're right....trump-miller-vance and MAGA appear to be exploiting this tragedy (Kirk's murder) in order to set the stage for the Government's restricting free press and free speech rights.

Yes! We need to stop all the lies intended to incite discord, and stop the shitty little agenda of lies and radical claims that facts don't support- and instead join president Trump is looking for: Obama's secret Kenyan birth certificate for 6 years straight because you're not gonna believe what his top people are findings on it, cat-eating Haitians in Ohio, Mexicans who we all know are rapists and murderers, Muslims, anyone else from "sh*thole countries", trans people, the media, stolen presidential elections, cancer causing wind turbines, autism-causing vaccines, women who are bleeding out of their... wherever, genocidal S Africans, ... and other such odds and ends. Yay love, concord, truth, and harmony!

Kimmel still enjoys his Free Speech. He just lost his ABC microphone. He can still spew his hatred elsewhere.
The left needs to stop their shitty little agenda of lies and far, far, left claims that facts don't support.
The left are in self-destruct mode, and I just stay out of their way.

"Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." - Napoleon Bonaparte

Trump claimed he won the 2020 election on Fox News today.

Should the government be involved in punishing political speech it doesnt like?

What you're describing sounds like this- “Well, the problem is on the left. If you look at the problem, the problems is on the left. It's not on the right. Like some people like to say, on the right. The problem we have is on the left and when you look at the agitators, you look at the scum that speaks so badly of our country, the American flag burnings all over the place, that's the left that's not the right."

and, this...
The left needs to stop their shitty little agenda of lies and far, far, left claims that facts don't support.

MAGAs don't care about the Constitution.

True. Unfortunately, neither does the Democratic Party leadership. Otherwise, they would be threatening these corporations and media orgs and telling them that the actions of those who capitulate and buddy up with tyrants will be remembered and punished accordingly.

I've been railing against the full of the Republicrats for some time now. It's just that MAGA fed the machine meth and coke and now we're flying faster towards the destruction of the Republic than we have ever done so before.

He KNEW it was a lie?

Explain to me how it is he could have known that, given that no one yet knows for sure what drove that kid to do what he did!

Do you know why the kid did that?

By the way and from just 1 hour ago!

Why was Kirk killed? Evidence paints complicatedpicture of alleged assassin

Prosecutors in Utah appear to be preparing to argue that 22-year-old Tyler Robinson killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah last week because he disagreed with Kirk's anti-trans rhetoric.

The problem with your response is that ABC did that because they were "pressured" by Carr. That is political as the head of the FCC should not be involved in business decisions, especially those that are political.
The left are in self-destruct mode, and I just stay out of their way.

You are describing exactly what the Right is doing

There is no "problem" with anything I said. I made three statements, all of which are 100% true:
• Kimmel still enjoys his Free Speech. (100% true)
• He just lost his ABC microphone. (100% true)
• He can still spew his hatred elsewhere. (100% true)

So, you'll need to do better than that.

If only you guys had actual convictions, and self respect.

I'd love to throw this post back in your face when the next Democratic President starts taking his revenge and the MAGAs start crying about "free speech" again, but no one will care. MAGAs being hypocritical, craven fascists is "Dog Bites Man" news. It's expected.

I have no idea what you're babbling about, (and I doubt that you do either) but it has nothing to do with calling Trump Hitler or a Nazi.

Trump wishes he was Hitler. He's much less competent.

And if you're being honest (which I certainly don't believe) and really don't understand what I'm saying, then I don't know what to tell you other than I am sorry that the educational system have failed you.

Once again, the path being followed in that of a Dictator. Trump is not yet one but he is on that path and if he accomplishes it, it will happen.

Are you the kind of a person that never uses prevention for anything? In other words, if you are shown that talking too much sugar (or smoking) will make you a diabetic (or get lung cancer) , do you still continue taking sugar (or smoking) until it actually happens?

. . .And if you're being honest (which I certainly don't believe) and really don't understand what I'm saying, then I don't know what to tell you other than I am sorry that your friends, family, and the educational system have failed you.
Typical ad hominem nonsense from someone who is incapable of formulating an intelligent argument.

But I'm glad that you resorted to this nonsense. You people don't even understand how your logical fallacies reveal your own lack of knowledge and insight.

It never gets old. Please continue with the ad hominem logical fallacies. I find them (and you) amusing.

I like it when people call Trump a dictator, Hitler, Nazi, etc.
These questions are irrelevant (and stupid, frankly)

If you have a point, then please make it. Don't ask questions to make your point.

Jimmy Kimmel still has the right to Free Speech.

I made a statement (not an "argument") requiring only a medium level of intelligence to understand, which by your own words, you did not understand.

I see that you've deleted that post, but don't worry, I quoted it in time.

For me to have committed a "logical fallacy," I would by definition need to be making an argument - trying to convince you (or someone else) of something.

I'm not. You guys are beyond saving, I'm just laughing at you.

You don't even understand what a logical fallacy even is. You don't understand that an ad hominem attack is a type of logical fallacy. If you understood these things, then you wouldn't make them.

But you do make them - you're just not at level where you can understand that. It's ironic, but you cannot see the irony.

You know so little, yet pretend to know so much. There's a clinical term for that kind of cognitive bias: Dunning Kruger Effect
