ACLU Responds to Trump Administration Move Censoring Jimmy Kimmel
Christopher Anders, director of the Democracy and Technology Division at the American Civil Liberties Union, said:
“Jimmy Kimmel is the latest target of the Trump administration’s unconstitutional plan to silence its critics and control what the American people watch and read. Cowering to threats, ABC and the biggest owner of its affiliate stations gave the Trump FCC chairman exactly what he wanted by suspending Kimmel indefinitely and dropping the show.
“This is beyond McCarthyism. Trump officials are repeatedly abusing their power to stop ideas they don’t like, deciding who can speak, write, and even joke. The Trump administration's actions, paired with ABC's capitulation, represent a grave threat to our First Amendment freedoms.”

Kimmel's remark wasn't free speech, it was a lie that he knew was a lie, and if he didn't he should have based on the murderers comments and actions. Kimmel didn't exercise his right of free speech because his speech was intended to incite more discord and he knew that. What he did is the same as the common example of yelling fire in a crowded theater to cause a panic when there is no fire.ABC suspends Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show indefinitely over his remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death
This action was done by Brendan Carr (Secretary of the FCC - appointed by Donald Trump).
What makes this action even worse is that Carr has been a strong proponent of Free Speech in the past, and here he goes and attacks Free Speech.
Here are Carr's comments in the past about Free Speech
In 2019 he said: "Should the government censor speech it doesn't like? Of course not. The FCC does not have a roving mandate to police speech in the name of the 'public interest'".
In 2023 he said: "Free speech is the counterweight—it is the check on government control. That is why censorship is the authoritarian’s dream".
In 2024 he said: “A lot of social media companies have embraced, or re-embraced, the idea of free speech online, I think Elon Musk and X had a great deal to do with that. I was pleased to see Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook join him, but clearly there’s more we can do.”
Now and after this suspension of Kimmel was done, this was Carr's comment" "Local broadcasters have an obligation to serve the public interest. While this may be an unprecedented decision, it is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community values. I hope that other broadcasters follow Nexstar's lead."
This OP is not about Kimmel himself. I never was a fan of Kimmel as I am against all extremes and Kimmel was all about Trump every show. Too much (in my opinion). Nonetheless, first was Steven Colbert and now Jimmy Kimmel and who is next?
Here is the comment from the ACLU after this event:
This OP is about Free Speech, which is a right given to us by the Constitution and one we have strongly defended throughout the lifetime of our country. It also about Carr's turnaround from a supporter of Free Speach to a man that torpedoes it (loyalty to Trump).

It is evident that Free Speech is being attacked and is losing the battle.
I think this is wrong.
Prove what Kimmel said is a lie.Kimmel's remark wasn't free speech, it was a lie that he knew was a lie, and if he didn't he should have based on the murderers comments and actions. The left needs to stop their shitty little agenda of lies and far, far, left claims that facts don't support.

The politization of this tragedy by the right is much more egregious than anything Kimmel didWe know what MAGA is really after with all this, parading around Kirk's corpse for political gains.
@Integrityrespec has yet to prove his or her or their claims that what Kimmel said was a "lie" and that Kimmel knew is it was a "lie".It wasn't a lie though. And it's a comedy show.

Trump's moves against the media mirror approaches by authoritarian leaders to silence dissent
Since taking office in January, President Donald Trump has waged an aggressive campaign against the media unlike any in modern U.S. history, making moves similar to those of authoritarian leaders that he has often praised.apnews.com

Kimmel still enjoys his Free Speech. He just lost his ABC microphone. He can still spew his hatred elsewhere.Kimmel's remark wasn't free speech, it was a lie that he knew was a lie, and if he didn't he should have based on the murderers comments and actions. "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." - Napoleon Bonaparte
What you're describing sounds like this- “Well, the problem is on the left. If you look at the problem, the problems is on the left. It's not on the right. Like some people like to say, on the right. The problem we have is on the left and when you look at the agitators, you look at the scum that speaks so badly of our country, the American flag burnings all over the place, that's the left that's not the right."Kimmel's remark wasn't free speech, it was a lie that he knew was a lie, and if he didn't he should have based on the murderers comments and actions. MAGAs don't care about the Constitution.
I've been railing against the full of the Republicrats for some time now. It's just that MAGA fed the machine meth and coke and now we're flying faster towards the destruction of the Republic than we have ever done so before.True. Unfortunately, neither does the Democratic Party leadership. Otherwise, they would be threatening these corporations and media orgs and telling them that the actions of those who capitulate and buddy up with tyrants will be remembered and punished accordingly.

The problem with your response is that ABC did that because they were "pressured" by Carr. That is political as the head of the FCC should not be involved in business decisions, especially those that are political.
There is no "problem" with anything I said. I made three statements, all of which are 100% true:
• Kimmel still enjoys his Free Speech. (100% true)
• He just lost his ABC microphone. (100% true)
• He can still spew his hatred elsewhere. (100% true)
I have no idea what you're babbling about, (and I doubt that you do either) but it has nothing to do with calling Trump Hitler or a Nazi.
Once again, the path being followed in that of a Dictator. Trump is not yet one but he is on that path and if he accomplishes it, it will happen. There is no "problem" with anything I said. I made three statements, all of which are 100% true:

So, you'll need to do better than that.
Typical ad hominem nonsense from someone who is incapable of formulating an intelligent argument.. . .And if you're being honest (which I certainly don't believe) and really don't understand what I'm saying, then I don't know what to tell you other than I am sorry that your friends, family, and the educational system have failed you.
I like it when people call Trump a dictator, Hitler, Nazi, etc.Once again, the path being followed in that of a Dictator. Trump is not yet one but he is on that path and if he accomplishes it, it will happen.
These questions are irrelevant (and stupid, frankly)Are you the kind of a person that never uses prevention for anything? In other words, if you are shown that talking too much sugar (or smoking) will make you a diabetic (or get lung cancer) , do you still continue taking sugar (or smoking) until it actually happens?
Typical ad hominem nonsense from someone who is incapable of formulating an intelligent argument.
It never gets old. Please continue with the ad hominem logical fallacies. I find them (and you) amusing.
You don't even understand what a logical fallacy even is. You don't understand that an ad hominem attack is a type of logical fallacy. If you understood these things, then you wouldn't make them. For me to have committed a "logical fallacy," I would by definition need to be making an argument - trying to convince you (or someone else) of something.
I'm not. You guys are beyond saving, I'm just laughing at you.
