Free marijuana to be handed out Inauguration Day

WASHINGTON — The DC Cannabis Coalition says it plans to hand out thousands of joints of marijuana on Inauguration Day — for free — to urge federal legalization of pot.
The group plans to start handing out joints at 8 a.m. Jan. 20 on the west side of Dupont Circle in the nation's capital, where recreational marijuana is legal. Then, marchers will walk to the National Mall where the real protest will begin.
Welcome to ...'Hollyweed'? Iconic 'Hollywood' sign altered...again
“The main message is it’s time to legalize cannabis at the federal level," said Adam Eidinger, the founder of DCMJ, a group of D.C. residents who introduced and helped get Initiative 71 passed in the District. Initiative 71 made it legal to possess 2 ounces or less or marijuana, to grow it, and to give it away, but it is not legal to sell it.
Eidinger is worried, though, that all this progress will be lost with the incoming administration, specifically, with President-elect Donald Trump's pick for attorney general, Jeff Sessions.
"We are looking at a guy who as recently as April said that they are going to enforce federal law on marijuana all over the country. He said marijuana is dangerous," Eidinger said.
The great marijuana giveaway is legal, as long as it's done on D.C. land.
"We don't want any money exchanged whatsoever. This is really a gift for people who come to Washington, D.C.," he said.
There will 4,200 gifts, to be exact. Then, at 4 minutes and 20 seconds into Trump's speech (420 is the internationally known code for weed), protesters are encouraged to light up. That part, is most definitely illegal.
i wouldn't be surprised if there's a serious crackdown in pot legal states. on the other hand, maybe Trump will decide that it makes money, so it's great and terrific. maybe neither. maybe both. on the same day.

I hope they have a **** load of it, people are going to be needing it over the next four years.Fantastic idea. This should get some press coverage and hopefully highlight to the incoming administration just how schizophrenic it is to have conflicting federal and state laws lasting for a decade or so now.
This situation really needs to be addressed - I'm actually pretty amazed the Obama administration hasnt done anything about it, and I'm pretty pessimistic the Trump/Sessions administration will do anything either.
Hopefully he'll just leave it alone. But him picking Jeff Sessions makes me feel otherwise.
But he could up his favorability if he eliminated those federal laws making recreational marijuana illegal. But it's all up to Trump to decide.

I hope it goes off very peacefully and without incident. The strongest statement pot heads could make is to get really stoned while obeying all the laws in the process.Fantastic idea. How is it up to trump to decide? This is an issue for congress to decide. The first step is to hand it back to the states to decide for themselves.Hopefully he'll just leave it alone. But him picking Jeff Sessions makes me feel otherwise.

Ive done the march for years now. People smoking atay in the middle of the crowd where the police can not get them. After you get stoned you move to the edges of the narch to keep the coos out. Its all pretty peaceful.Trump doesn't strike me as a hardcore social conservative, and I'd imagine his policy may wind up being let the states decide. Weed is "legal" in DC, however you have to use it in a private residency. Smoking up on the national mall during the inauguration is still illegal. Personally I think the feds should ban marijuana from entering via foreign countries because I'd hate for it to feed drug cartels. Legalize it in the US and let the states handle marijuana policy for themselves. Grow it on legal farms in America and keep that money here.
For many reasons I doubt Sessions is going to make the cut.

He has stated that he thinks pot is a state's rights issue. It is up to each state to decide.
Trump expects a certain decorum, gets a little testy when he does not get it (yes I know that a lot to most people think I am crazy here, no need to point it out)....this is a bad move. One thing that will get Trumps motor running every time is acting above the law(yes I know that a lot to most people think I am crazy here, no need to point it out).
I don't think he gives a flip about pot. The majority of citizens want pot legalized. He has met with a veteran's group to specifically discuss pot and the medical benefits. It's a waste of money and time to chase people around for smoking a weed.
I saw some interview with him awhile ago talking about his brother dealing with alcoholism and how he stays away from alcohol. I really doubt he sees drugs in anything but negative light, I'm pretty sure the pick of Sessions was due to Sessions stance on both immigration and drugs. I hope I am wrong but I doubt it.

They should have done this 8 years ago when the drug addict was being inaugurated.
I don't think this is going to fly with the next administration.
Smoke weed everyday.
