Forget Covid. Now even the flu shot is becoming a partisan issue

The annual flu shot was never a partisan issue. But now it is, apparently. How did his happen?

The story started because Trump was worried Covid’s effect on the economy was going to make him look bad, and so he downplayed it. It is in spite of knowing that it was a lethal pandemic, and he is on tape admitting it. But he, with the help of Fox News, got his base thinking it’s no worse than the common cold. American lives or not worth her appearance of being weak on the economy. Who shuts down the economy or gets a vaccine because of something that’s no worse than the common cold, right?

Downplaying Covid and not getting the vaccine became almost a marker of tribal identity for Trump supporters. People in Trump supporting areas were afraid to tell family and friends that they were getting the vaccine for fear of being ostracized. It’s just not what good decent people do. Getting the Covid shot for the Trump cult has become like eating pork for Muslims or something.

Well, now this has taken on a life of its own. It is really growing beyond Covid to be a general anti-vax position as standard dogma of the cult. Getting the annual flu shot was never a partisan issue before. Now polls are showing it is. So it looks like Trump supporters us survive Covid are going to be taking it on the chin with the flu this year. This whole Trump cult is really turning into a suicide death cult.

Well as long as the death cult kill themselves off with their stupidity, I for one won't be complaining. The fewer there are of these idiots, the fewer people they'll infect and make sick-with potentially lethal consequences. Win-win.
 
I saw this coming a long time ago. They got you all used to going behind a curtain in a public store to get a shot of some sort. It always sounded Frankensteinish to me

Getting the flu shot at a pharmacy or other similar place cuts down the cost of doctors visits and its not something we need a doctor's expertise to do.

Sorry it's creepy in my book. I would much rather go to the privacy of my own Doctor for medical procedures even as seemingly small as a shot or vaccine. And I'm not anti-vaxx I just haven't found one that I think I need.

Or, the media and pollsters are setting it up like that...and people are jumping to find a reason for division and swallowing the nonsense to fit their own biases.

But anyway, that’s besides the point. We were talking about Republican voters in general, not you in particular.
 
I used to always get a yearly flu shot, but a few years ago I had a really bad reaction to the shot. My knee, hip and shoulder joints hurt so bad I felt like I was 150 years old. I could barely walk, and it took an entire week for the pain to subside. I would have rather had the flu for a week than that.

The problem is: Even if you're healthy enough to survive influenza or COVID-19, you could pass it on to someone who isn't. Your selfish and irresponsible decision to avoid getting vaccinated against a potentially dangerous and contagious disease could cost someone else their life.
