(Forbes) Trump Won’t Deny There Could Be A Recession—Warns Of ‘Period Of Transition’ In Economy

I suspect Trump now sees glimpses of the future, and knows he can't get away with disputing it. So, he's now switched to getting ahead of it - shaping the narrative.
Spot on.
He knows by shaping the narrative now, his cult will repeat his narrative if economy sputters

Presidential power does not in itself cause a recession. You're giving way too much power to a president you strongly dislike.
Bullshit.. U guys were praying, hoping for a recession under Biden.. So you could blame him..

Can't have it both ways, unless ur in a cult..

Nice twist of my words and his political campaign promises.

"Pain" and "gain" are Trump's very words, and the very words you yourself used in your post.

You're fear mongering.

The Fed predicted a recessionary quarter, not I.

Trump has pulled back on tariffs at least for another month. Between now and then, we should enjoy each day.

Not true.

I reported on this Friday:

And another poster just reported the latest news moments ago:

Presidential power does not in itself cause a recession. You're giving way too much power to a president you strongly dislike.
presidential power can in fact cause a recession. The economy is held up by consumer spending, and consumers who aren't confident dont spend as much, and chaos and trump's obvious economic ineptitude are wreaking havoc on confidence..not to mention all the layoffs and suspending spending.

sorry if reality intrudes on your right wing bubble.

". . . If the economy sputters"?

They're repeating it now! In this very thread!

Another one of these? Reporter asks a question, Trump doesn't commit one way or the other, and it's 'Trump won't deny there could be a recession.'. That's not a story.

Quite a coincidence, but all this is laid out in Project 2025.

No! In normal times a president would be held more accountable by congress and his cabinet, and his mania/ego driven excesses kept under control. But Trump has managed to give himself dictatorial style powers while surrounded by carefully selected gutless sycophants, and the GOP congress have abdicated their responsibility to keep the country safe from Trumps craziness because they are too gutless to do anything to protect America.

Many, many, many, including myself, warned that the Trump policies that he announced pre-election must lead to both inflation and recessionary pressures. The only thing most of us didn't predict is that he would bring us down so badly, so quickly. It's interesting that no matter who I ask, or how often I ask, not a single Trump supporter has so far given back a clear indication of what they believe Trumps economic end game looks like, and how we will get there. It's pretty obvious that most Trump voters voted for all the broken promises of instant economic gains or evicting brown people etc, and never even stopped to analyse the probable real life impacts of the policies Trump ran on.

So now that he has had your votes, the promises of instant nirvana have all gone away. Replaced by "the pain will be good for you" and promises of an unspecified future nirvana at some unspecified time in the future. What's the bet that when we reach the mid-terms we will still be hearing ever increasing promises about a wonderful future while millions are struggling to keep their families housed and fed? The main point here is that the vast damage being done today is not so much about Trumps goals of rebalancing trade etc. The vast and immediate damage being done is all about the insane way that Trump is trying to do things. It's all about his personal ego and need to feel like an all powerful king, rather than any sort of sane and calculated strategy designed to achieve the goals while doing the least possible harm.

If we allowed all of trumps dreams to come true you would be in a bread line. Which technically I'm not against you guys being there but

He tweeted about the markets dozens and dozens of times during his first term.

See this is what needs to be shown to maga and when they deflect you call them ****ing idiots and move on

Until you turn Trump into a wwe heel you won't have maga turn on him.
This is what needs to happen.

Yeah, leave it to Trixie to downplay presidential decisions on the economy. For 4 fricking years she complained about Biden's economy. That's just the way all these MAGA here roll. Just a huge pile of partisan hacks, every single one of them.

They say that now. A different tune come Mother's Day. Remember, these are people that are cult members. Separating will take time. Little things like foreclosures might have an impact.
You bet they will! And there will be a massive MAGAT epiphany over the summer as th reality of job losses, inflation, and much higher prices along with business failures becomes a reality. The fact of the matter is that in general MAGATS are less well educated and have lower incomes than normal people and will therefore disproportionately feel the effects of any recession. I am hoping that the tariffs stick so that the repulsicans take it on the chin in 2026. I can see the campaign ads now-black and white ads with the felon promising to lower the cost of groceries for ordinary Americans with the next scene showing graphs of skyrocketing inflation and prices.

But I’m fearful that the felon and his magacabinet will see the light and chicken out so g the hat the felon can claim an insignificant “win”.

Trump and MAGA ran on egg prices, inflation, and the economy. And to no surprise, when they get into power they wreck it all.

Now you'll see all the good little Maoist MAGA commies shift gears and talk about how recession is necessary and how prices need to rise, etc.

Commie pukes.

Presidents don't cause recessions. None of them have that much power.

Trump takes credit for what he calls "the greatest economy in American history," which I would assume means he can also take credit for a recession (if/when that happens).

Or is this similar to his pronouncement before the 2022 mid-terms: "I think if they win, I should get all of the credit, and if they lose, I should not be blamed at all."

I don' know. The Trump Faithful seem ready to sacrifice themselves for him. I even met one in the supermarket, who told me she is willing to "bear the costs!".
The question is, bear the cost of what — make sure billionaires are fattened?
