Broad demographic shifts in marital status, educational attainment and employment have transformed the way young adults in the U.S. are living, and a new Pew Research Center analysis of census data highlights the implications of these changes for the most basic element of their lives – where they call home. In 2014, for the first time in more than 130 years, adults ages 18 to 34 were slightly more likely to be living in their parents’ home than they were to be living with a spouse or partner in their own household.
This thread could be about laundry soap and it would just take a few moments for the right wingers to blame 'socialism' or the' welfare state'.
And it would take just a few moments after they do that for left wingers who go by Bukowski aliases to defend the gubmint's policies.
I think maybe selfishness has a bit to do with it.
When did it become unfashionable for friends to share an apartment to get out of Mommies house?
Yes housing is expensive but sharing can fix that problem, it is just that people want everything and right now.
I guess socialism starts at home? The price of independence is too high? Why leave perfectly good working parents when you can bail on them later when they get sick and broke?
how's that?
Cost of living is too high. Everything is too expensive. It's a byproduct of a heavily regulated, welfare state economy.
According to Pew for the first time since 1940 more American young adults are living with the their parents than in any other living arrangements.
I imagine a lot of this increase (and the study agrees) is a rise in the cost of living and the fact that marriages are either taking place a lot later than they used to or not at all. This can either be a positive or negative thing, on the upside it means a lot of young adults are choosing to stay at home and save money but on the other hand young adults are being forced to live with their parents because the cost of living as made it unaffordable for young adults to live away form home. Personally, I have no choice but to live away from home but many others have the choice.
What do you think about this new trend?

I think several things are wrong here
1) it is possible to live outside of your parents household financially, that is a bogus excuse, I live on my own with no roommates on the waterfront no less and spend 22% of my income on rent, far below the suggested maximum of 33.33%
2) Society has pushed the idea that one should delay adulthood and spend your twenties figuring things out instead of choosing a path and working, this is bad
3) I fear this is creating a society of 25 year old children. I moved out of my parents place shortly after turning 22, within 2 months I felt I matured greatly. there was no longer food in the house unless I put it there, the lights didn't turn on unless I payed the bill, etc etc etc.
I feel this is a negative trend and the cost of living is a bogus excuse, what that means is "the cost of living where I would prefer to live is too high.

yeah thats great advice if your scolding a teenager, but not everyone can live that way

Some Government policies should be defended.
You're right, some people will be sitting until they die living off someone else and making excuses.
an extremely small percentage have legitimate disabilities and problems requiring they be cared for.
people who want to win in life will.
well if you feel that way why share any of this wonderful wisdom with us? shouldn't you be keepng it a secret? So only your children will know these wonderful secrets of success? And they can pass on your wealth for eons?
The price of being independent is unaffordable.
