...she mentioned several factors that hadn’t existed before. New media reports showed that gun sales had spiked in response to panic over COVID-19, which was reflected in the Hotline’s calls. The number one way victims die from domestic violence is by a gun. In its latest report, the Violence Policy Center found that nearly 2,000 women were killed by men in the U.S. in 2017, the majority of them with firearms.
At the Center for Women and Families in Louisville, Kentucky, CEO Elizabeth Wessels-Martin shared the same concern. She said that the surge in gun and alcohol sales, coupled with the stress of the virus, had created a “perfect storm for an increase of violence in the home.”

Horrible combination: stress, booze and more guns, all while trapped inside with an abusive nut. What a nightmare.
Remember, the abuser's weapon of choice is a gun.

For the most part, abused wives do not buy guns. It goes against the nature of a victim to be assertive like that.First off, abusers are the worst kinds of POS and keeping these relationships in constant proximity is going to escalate incidents. Gun sales are definitely up. Are there a lot of abused women buying guns as well? I didn't see it in the article but would be curious to know how many abused women have protected themselves with guns. I ask because my aunt had to do that very thing to protect herself and kids from an alcoholic, abusive husband.

All the more reason for women in the U.S. to own a gun and be able to use it.
Yes women should. But, we all know it's a minority of males who own the most guns...it's a short dick thing.
More armed women means fewer rapists and abusers.
There was a time in this country where a father was within his rights to kill someone who raped, or abused their daughters. We need to see a return to that.

What about the fathers who rape and abuse their daughters...free pass?

I saw a documentary on abused women in a shelter, a common theme was them asking the counceling staff over and over what they had done wrong.
In short many of these women actually blamed themselves for their husbands behavior.

A gun in the home increases the chances of gun deaths of innocent people. A family is better off not having any guns in the home. Worried about a break in? Get a dog.
"gun deaths of innocent people" generally includes suicide....the fast majority of "gun deaths of innocent people" are in fact suicides....which greatly decreases the power of your argument.

During the study interval (12 months in Memphis, 18 months in Seattle, and Galveston) 626 shootings occurred in or around a residence. This total included 54 unintentional shootings, 118 attempted or completed suicides, and 438 assaults/homicides. Thirteen shootings were legally justifiable or an act of self-defense, including three that involved law enforcement officers acting in the line of duty. For every time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were four unintentional shootings, seven criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides.
Yes. There is a reason these women are trapped. And, it's not locked doors or balls and chains that bind them. There are many good books on the subject.
It is very difficult for the rest of us to understand the victim mentality. And, that is ok. But what is not ok is someone thinking that just because they know what ought to be done these victims will be capable of doing it.
How is saving the lives of people who might attempt suicide not a worthwhile goal ?
