This is one of the coolest, most heartwarming stories I've heard in a while. Back in 1994, a van load of Amish folks showed up at my friend's parent's home to help remove countless fallen trees from a recent tornado. As in western NC in 2025, they refused to accept payment, unless you count free lunches and lemonade! The Amish are my heroes!

Here's the real reason for conservative (whether or not they claim 'independent' status) positions: they want a la carte government. If they need something, government has a duty to provide it to them. If someone else needs something that they don't need, well **** that person, why do "we" have to pay for them.

That's "conservatism", apart from the social side, which is also horrible
