I grew up with pistachios that were dyed red. I saw some in an old movie and realized I had not seen the real thing in years.

I remember those. Remember fondue?

I miss the chocolate KFC dessert cup that had the crushed graham crackers at the bottom.

Holy shit. Chocolate parfait! Loved those things. Forgot all about them, been years.
Thanks! They had two options. I can't remember what the other one was called. I sure did like the chocolate parfait, though. That was a fun thing to get after church on the weekend before watching a movie or Matlock. I miss that.

Believe the other was a strawberry one?

Who remembers Delaware Punch? When I was little, this and those disgusting pink peanut patties were a thing. Also moon pies.

Naugles and Hostess pudding pies.

How can you have one Twinkie?

I forgot Jello Pudding Pops.

Pepsi Blue and Fruitopia sort of qualify.
Am I mistaken, or were Twinkies originally sold as a 2-pack? Easier to resist when there is only one, but the new Twinkies aren't the same anyway.😢

They used to be mostly imported and the red dye was a ploy to conceal mottling that occurred during drying.

Now most pistachios are domestic and superior processing eliminates mottling and the need for dyeing.

It's in the name--Twin-kies.

That makes sense.

As a kid, I wondered why pistachio ice cream was green.

They still dye the skin of oranges.

Visiting the Hispanic grocery chain is interesting because they have undyed naranjas.

All soda pop in those days tasted better especially in bottles served ice cold. When they swtched from real sugar to high fructose corn syrup it lost something.
It was also grapefruit-ier.

Strawberry soda tasted like heaven back then, too. I always got it for trips to the beach on sunny, hot days. Along with bologna sandwiches with a fine dusting of gritty sand between my teeth, that ol' strawberry pop was perfect.

Ah well, the thrill is gone but not forgotten.

Yeah, those peanuts are gross. What is Delaware Punch? Like Hi-C?

That was the era before we went over the edge with artificial ingrediants. These days I avoid soda pop altogether, which is probably a good thing, healthwise.

Did the government surplus truck used to stop in your town and hand out what it had to all comers? They had really decent instant mashed potatoes and 3 pound cans of peanut butter, too. Sometimes butter.
