Florida will open schools to volunteer chaplains

Florida school districts will soon have the option of allowing volunteer chaplains in as student counselors. Republican Gov.

Opponents cite several problems with the new Florida law, including there being no training requirements for chaplains. They also fear that some students might be ostracized if they are atheist or belong to a non-Christian religion in a Christian majority district. “When you have a military chaplain, they go through intensive training and they have to be in a position where they can provide information which is factually correct and appropriate to the situation,” said Democratic Sen. Lori Berman of Palm Beach County.

Without that training, a chaplain could provide psychologically damaging counseling, Berman said. She suggested schools add more social workers, guidance counsellors or psychologists if they need them. “Let’s put the trained professionals in and not some unlicensed, untrained people with a religious affiliation,” Berman said.

This is an absolute violation of the separation of church and state. Rhonda Santis is attempting to force his religious beliefs on the rest of his population and it needs to cost him his job and his professional license.

Florida needs to face severe fines and loss of funding from the federal government until this crap stops.

Considering how often 'youth pastors' are in the news and why, it seems pretty dumb to give them access to a school full of children.

The separation of church and state gets pissed on by this legislation. Public schools are not to be a recruiting ground for religions.

That should only happen outside of school, not in any public schools. Take that to church or your own home.
 
They shouldn't be there at all. Public schools should not have religious leaders of any kind as part of their staff, even volunteers, when that is part of their reason for being there.

No such thing is happening. These individuals are not able to recruit.

You should contact your representative in Tallahassee. Their reason to be there is to be available should a parent choose to utilize their skills.

They shouldn't be there at all. They are not properly trained school counselors and they can recruit while there, even if just indirectly through students they are allowed to counsel in school.

Inviting religious minsters into public schools is an attempt to recruit kids. Religious belief is for private time. Maybe a mandatory semester of logic and mythology will put and end to this nonsense.
 

Once again, Flori-duh shows that it is unable to self-govern properly. This needs to be taken to federal court.

How inclusive of you. I don't exclude people from public locations because of their religion. I don't want their religious beliefs imposed on anyone. Neither of which will happen under this law.

Public schools should not have any affiliation with churches, separation of church and state. That's part of our Constitution.

Under this law, the government is endorsing religion, favoring religion in fact, by not requiring the same background, credentials as it requires for a non religious person to be a counselor in their school. That is absolutely favoring religion. And DeSantis trying to ban Satanist chaplains reinforces this.

A public school is not open to the general public for the purpose of free speech to a group of people who are required to attend 7 hours a day. .
 
The law favors no religion, you are imposing your restrictions on others. How ironic. Nothing mandatory, no freedom to recruit. This is strictly voluntary, requiring parental consent for any contact.

Parental consent is an acceptable reason that makes this reasonable, to those who are reasonable.
