Open carry is now the law of the land on FL. Joining the other 46 states that all open carry. 🥳

I am surprised that our gun control proponents haven’t started screaming “blood in the streets” yet.

Time to get a fancy holster and maybe a BBQ gun. ;)

Can someone explain open carry to me, please? You just walk into a gun store, buy a 9mm, ammo, and holster, and wear it out?

It means that you are not required to conceal your firearm. 47 states have some form of open carry for handguns. 46 for long guns.

Now, open carry doesn’t invalidate the need for a permit in states that require one. Only 29 states have permitless/constitutional carry (come on NC).

Also, all other laws on place and manner of carry apply. So, in FL, you can’t carry on college campuses, into government meetings, law enforcement offices, or on private property if asked to leave.

In FL, no gun signs (in places not already banned by law) do not have force of law, but you can’t carry be asked to leave and if you refuse, you could be arrested for armed trespass (which is a felony).

So, concealed carry is still the smart move but this time a good from a legal perspective.

Adding that the person purchasing the firearm at an FFL would still have to complete a 4473 and undergo a background check. That requirement is Federal law and lying on a 4473 is a Federal crime (unless Daddy pardons you).

Prohibited persons are still prohibited persons.

And what they really want is open carry anywhere, anytime.

Like political rallies/speeches/churches/debates/offices/etc.

Please provide evidence of that claim. No one has challenged the FL law on prohibited spaces yet to my knowledge.

Besides, why would you delegate responsibility for your safety and the safety of your family to governmental organizations that (a) are under no obligation to protect you, and (b) probably not even present?

So you do need a background check? The 4473 looks comprehensive. Okay, I feel better.

And yet Everyone I've ever known in NJ feels fine walking around without a gun. And NJ consistently ranks in the top five lowest violent crimes rates for states. This despite being the most densely populated state, and having some fairly fierce cities like Newark, Camden, Trenton, Jersey City, and more. We're doing very well with very few people walking around strapped.

Wait.

So you DO want the government to restrict firearms in certain places????
I have no issue with that. If the government is providing armed guards and security, say metal detectors, that would make a place secure.

Do you think private venues have the right to restrict firearms?

Well good for you. Isn’t it great to live in a country where we have choices? We have 50 independent laboratories of democracy.

I’m CA this week. Drove the PCH. Not impressed. 45 min to go 8 miles on 405. Not impressed.

BTW, open carry of handguns and long guns is legal in NJ.

Not playing your gotcha game. Your question was asked and answered.
Now we're getting somewhere!!

Let's you and I make a list of where firearms SHOULD be restricted by the government.

I'll start...

  • Political rallies

You're up...

No, just long guns

I'm 50/50 on this. The only advantage I see is that someone (sane, that is) is less likely to mess with you if they see you have a gun.
But that's a pretty big advantage in some places.

Imagine needing to wear your “bravery” strapped to you for everyone to see…so you can walk around and feel “tough”

🤷‍♀️

At least if they’re open carrying though, the rest of people can know “there’s the insecure one, stay away”

Yes. Anyone open carrying in an urban or suburban environment should be avoided. Obviously someone who is unbalanced. Either through debilitating fear or pathological insecurity with a need to intimidate others. Probably both.

You mean like cops? :ROFLMAO:

Open carry gives options. I am hiking or camping and I want access to my firearm.
Or I need to run to store from my camp site and don’t want leave my firearm unsecured.

It must be nice to live in a safe suburban community where police respond in seconds when people call 911.
