Some members of former President Joe Biden’s Cabinet did not believe that he could be relied upon to perform at 2 a.m. during an emergency by the final year of his presidency, according to a new book from CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson.

Several secretaries told the authors that Biden’s inner circle grew so small in 2023 and 2024 that even members of his Cabinet weren’t included.

A third Cabinet secretary told Tapper and Thompson that Biden’s top aides “shielded him in every meeting.” From October 2023 on, “the cabinet was kept at bay,” this secretary said.

“For months, we didn’t have access to him. There was clearly a deliberate strategy by the White House to have him meet with as few people as necessary,” the third Cabinet secretary told the authors.

“At one rare meeting during that time,” the authors write that the third secretary “was shocked by how the president was acting. He seemed ‘disoriented’ and ‘out of it,’ his mouth agape.”

Poor guy. Seems weird he was President less than 4 months ago.

And yet I went to bed and woke and didn't wake up thinking what in hell did he do while I was asleep. We were envy of the world, our economy was thriving, we supported our allies, fed the poor and provided medical care for our citizens and those around the world. We upheld the Constitution and the rule of law. And we did so honorably.

Republicans said they would rather vote for a rock than for Biden. It sounds a bit like they got both.

If the reports are true, I don't like that there wasn't more transparency, but things were pretty positive during the tenure as far as the government was concerned. Whether it was Biden or others running things, I prefer 2021-2024 over the last four months of KAOS.

Isn't this at least two threads now about some book coming from CNN? I thought CNN was all comfy with the Democratic Party agenda? They trying to up their fan base and get tight with centrists? Or even some on the right?

By the way, I feel sorry for your empty life, Parrish. If you have nothing else to live for other than worry about the activities of some Executive Branch person, you are sure living in an empty world. Well, maybe in the lap of luxury, without a care in the world and you need to go find something to care about. Still a good reason to feel sorrow for you.

Biden is so in the past. What we are dealing with now is our present and future and it's not pretty. Aside from all the damage he is doing, Trump fell asleep during the arms talks in Saudi Arabia. Much too old to be President.

The democrats and the leadership of the party and the left media lied and knew they were lying about how bad off Biden was. Now those assholes are acting like they just discovered Biden had issues. Lying is what they do.
In all fairness, for security reasons is likely one reason they wanted to withhold the evidence we could see already.

No we didn't. That was a dream you were having.

That is an interesting point, except intel folks in many, many nations are doing fine work gathering information, sifting through that info to give good summaries to the bosses.

If, for some weird reason, I would have had to make determinations about the way things were going and my decisions were going to reflect on how I'd run an operation for my nation (not the U.S.) I would have asked for an assessment of the character of the First Lady at that time, and I think that Mrs Biden is no fool. I wouldn't have counted on her letting a rouge leader do real harm to the U.S. as she would likely have been a key point of contact for him and his advisers. In fact, I suspect she has a bit of a mean streak in her, and that is one thing a national leader needs.

For sure.

Some people feel that way. Most polling shows Biden was one of the least popular presidents ever, and a majority of the country felt he was taking it in the wrong direction, but not everyone felt that way.

And the cover up is often worse than the crime - if Biden had been open about his health and ran for president, no one would be mad.

But the fact that he and others tried to cover it up is a pretty big kick in the balls to the American people in general, and his voters in particular.

And Trump, as dumb as he is, is factually younger than Biden.

So, it makes no nevermind who the actual President is?

The actual president, the one elected in 2024 and in office now, makes his every waking moment serving up a word salad to the press, dominating the 24-hour news cycle, issues EO's to punish his political foes/ ethnic groups, erases history, violates the Constitution, foments hate and violence toward our judges, destroys our alliances. Those are just a few of the things F-POTUS didn't do during his term. I slept better.

Seems to be the trend for presidents these days. Senile old guys. Sigh.

Trump will be the last president ever elected to be born in the 1940s. It's been happening for like 30 years.

Progress is slow, but inevitable.

this is no surprise to anyone

Biden's mental and physical declines were obvious and everyone knew it. Liberals lied about it - but they knew
Ok touché. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, we also know you know. That said I’ve never said anything other than they were both too old to be president.

Sorry, can't take that seriously given Reagan and Trump's decline.

Just saying that you should tone down the lying rhetoric given how much you seem to support liars.

Exactly.. Reagan was far far worse than Biden already 2 years into his first term and his people and wife hid it from the American people. It was of course easier back then as 24/7 news coverage was in its infancy.

The current administration has a willing news media (many who do it out of fear) to cover up Trumps massive cognitive decline..., where as Biden had a hostile media.

The amount of times Trump has fallen a sleep during official duties is astounding. The word garbage he pushes daily are a clear sign of advanced dementia.

You think the media is in the bag for Trump, but was hostile to Biden? Am I living in bizarro world?
