The U.S. never seems to make the list of the top fifteen places for tourists to travel to.
I have travellled to the U.S. on multiple occasions and have never really felt unsafe.

With U.S. news I have been exposed to over the last few years, I have to admit there are some states
I would probably take a pass on. They would probably be fine, but they do not get good press.

Here’s the overall list of the safest countries for 2025.

Wow. Makes me want to go to Canada.
Uh, wait a minute...

Finland isn’t on the list?

Must be the hockey games.
It will be on the lists, just not in the top 15 or 10.

I don't know where the U.S. placed on the latest list but their ranking since 2008 (when the list started) averages around 20th

But Canada!
Finnish men like knives so much they give them names. My ex- mother-in-law had three brothers in the German army in WW2 and one of them had been stationed on an island in the Baltic, near another island occupied by Russians. They used to trade artillery fire now and then, and the Germans hadn't got a response from the Russians for awhile. They sent a reconnaissance patrol and found the Russians all dead, many knifed in their sleep. The Finns had come in the night...

Dunno what their methodology or if these are in ranked order, is but on ‘safe from violent crime’ Japan should be nearer the top. Safer than Canada, Australia and NZ (especially) for sure.

In fact I’ll say any major, developed city in Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and yes, China; as well as Singapore (especially, and its not on the list?), Hong Kong a few others, you are extremely unlikely to suffer any kind of physical harm or threat thereof.

I used to have a dive buddy who was Finish.

We don't hear much about them, but based on that one relationship I would advise NOT pissing them off. Thicker skin than Americans and Ausies, but once triggered......

I had fun in England.

What part of Canada are they assessing? I've been to every province and two territories. There is virtually NOTHING in common between a Newfoundlander and a Prairie born Metis. It's simply not possible either was considered in the survey. At best would be Torontonians and they're not even like in Canada.

I have a feeling the survey is "content" for some retail site and the list is from the imagination of a 17 year old who is restricted in his skate boarding.

Agree that Japan should be at the top of the list.

China can't be compared to other Asian countries. I lived and worked there and it's one of the riskier countries for expats.

We just don't hear much about it.

Singapore like Japan is extremely safe, with a murder rate slightly lower than Canada.

I remember watching Finland win hockey gold at the worlds a few years back. One thing I found quite interesting is that during the team's celebration, everyman associated with the Team as players, trainers, coaches, etc. hugged each other.
Each hug was a real hug that lasted a few seconds. They were so happy as a group and also so happy for each and everyone else.

Me, watching it from across the ocean in Canada, was so glad I witnessed that. It truly touched me and I will never forget it. Now in tournaments I always cheer for the Finns, unless they are playing the Canadian team :)

I lived in Finland for a while. I too was surprised it wasn't making the lists. Certainly a place where I never felt under threat and never worried about being out late at night etc. Almost got into a nasty fight in Singapore with some riskshaw drivers we had hired. They took us to a road where they had a bunch of their mates waiting and then tried to tell us the price for the ride was 10 times higher than they had quoted. A version of the standard 'taxi ripoff' scheme for those that have experienced one. Told them we were only paying the quoted price and they started to threaten us. Then a couple of police started down the alley and the rickshaw drivers all disappeared before things got physical. One of the very few countries where I experienced a physical threat. Lived in Taiwan for a while also and while never had a problem, I got the feeling that being a tourist who got into trouble with a local might not always end well. Also spent a bit of time in Japan. Felt pretty safe to me, but some parts of Tokyo we visited had surprisingly large homeless populations. Not sure if that might affect tourists safety, but never felt under threat myself.

Surprised to find Italy on some of the lists. My personal experience has Italy as probably the worst 1st world country I regularly visited for tourist rip-offs, including veiled threats of violence if you call the locals out on their rip-off games. Never got close to actual violence, but not a place to drop your guard in my experience at least. Do love the country though once you get away from the city centres.
