Sports Illustrated models, strippers, etc. choose to show off their body for money. Men (mostly) then purchase the magazine or go to the strip clubs to ogle their bodies.

Feminists - does this bother you? Should a feminist woman be taking off her clothes so men will pay them? If it does bother you, how do you marry the two feminist thoughts that women should never be objectified and women should do whatever the hell they want with their bodies?

Second wave feminists usually have a problem with that, while third wave feminists considers it empowerment.

We still hear way too much about "Male Gaze" and how whistling at a woman on the street is abuse for my liking..

Feminists nowadays pretty much don't have anything to complain about. That's why they say it's empowerment when a woman does whatever she wants with her body while simultaneously saying that women are being objectified if they act as strippers to pay for graduate school.

I believe their point now doesn't have much to do with anything else besides consent and what the woman wants. So does she want to be a hooker? Go for it. House mom? Go for it. Nun? Go for it. Just as long as the woman has free agency.

Remember too that at lot of these jobs that were once set aside for good looking women now include a smattering of fat women, because politics.

I desperately hope that this problem does not get worse.

They came up with "manspreading" to complain about, even when they are sitting 10 seats away from a guy.

You have to wear a Batman suit and mask I guess. According to the old 1970s Batman, who was in orgies and backstage sex nearly everyday, women were beating down their doors and banging on their windows to get laid by him and his crime fighting partner. What was his name: Robin? The Batman said the women loved when he and his partners stood with wide spread legs and bulges protruding.

I listen to feminist like I listen to Klansmen.

There is some mansplaining going on in this thread now. :2razz:

lol...do you actually believe that when she's whispering it in your ear? I suspect most of them are just stripping to feed a drug habit. But, they are very good at telling men exactly what they want to hear. That is for sure.

I tell my wife she needs to go to stripper school. She never tells me what I want to hear.

Some women regard stripping as female empowerment.

That's two different groups of feminists. Third wave considers stripping empowering, while second wave talks of women being objectified when doing it.

Yes, however these two groups of feminists have made the determination that feminism is mutually exclusive. Therefore they both can't be right. This is because the ultimate aims of feminism have been achieved and there's really not much to fight about in Western Countries. Therefore there is is nothing left for them except to squabble about increasingly petty minutae.

And i say god bless them! I believe female strippers are our most noble citizens.

Third wave fundamentally disagrees with the aims of second wave on this subject. Second wave spent a lot of it's effort blasting things like modeling, stripping and porn as objectifying, exploitative, or just harmful to things like body image issues, while third wave doesn't show much ability to care about that stuff and just wants to declare that women can do what they want. In essence, second wave disagreed with these industries and from what I can tell wasn't all that supportive of women doing them, while third wave is 100% behind woman doing them, but doesn't show any effort to consider those industries as harmful. If you ask me second wave is probably closer to being right.

I'd say that you don't know many of them. I've known a few, and, in fact, one of my young relatives is one. Some, like a few hookers, may be college students trying to make a buck, but most have real problems, including drug abuse.

I've made my decision.

I don't identify as a feminist, but I have absolutely no problem with it.

I bet you do believe in many of the things about being a feminist though.. like making your own choice NOT be get married to a guy and be a baby factory.

Well, she's gay, so yeah, I bet she believes in that one for more reasons than one.

Having seen the sums of money some guys will throw at a stripper, some of them may be right.

Exactly! It's simple supply and demand...if there was no demand the supply would be pointless.

I have absolutely no idea what you mean here.

There are two ways this conversation can go right now. I am going to provide a hint. Try repeating my post using your best Homer Simpson voice.

I've made my decision.

Now, you either get my meaning and have a sense of humor or you are still befuddled and you are taking me way too seriously. Either way, my general point is that strippers and hookers/esocrts/etc provide a service and do not deserve to be ostracized nor looked down upon. They do a job. The truth is that there are people who are drug addicts. There are people who are alcoholics. Does this profession call to those people because of the way people perceive it or do people with those problems just gravitate towards these types of professions due to some other reason. I don't know. I do say, god bless them for the work they do. They deserve just as much respect for their professions as any other working folk. For the **** they take, they probably deserve even more.
