President Trump notified North Carolina this month that he is cancelling an agreement for our Local Food for Schools and Child Care Cooperative program. We were to receive $!9M in funding to purchase food for schools that is produced by local farmers and businesses. An additional $11M of funding is being withheld from the Local Food Purchase Assistance program that would have helped 66 local and regional farms. Many of these farms and businesses are on the brink of failure due to the impact of Hurricane Helene including our local food bank, MANNA, whose warehouse was destroyed.

This is super bad timing for our people who are still reeling from the hurricane - many of whom have no jobs, businesses, or homes to go back to. Even Steve Troxler, NC's Republican Agriculture Commissioner, said, "We are disappointed" by Trump's decision.

North Carolina as a state voted for this outcome so they now need to accept the consequences. I’d love to help but my own state was hurt hard by wildfires and after all the help we gave to the Carolinas, instead we got Trump withholding aid to get revenge while North Carolina leadership stayed silent. So going forward us blue states are going to focus on our own needs and let MAGA deal with its own problems.

I hope the people of North Carolina are able to raise these funds by themselves

Disappointed? Troxler should be outraged!

The damage from DJT II isn’t going to impact only blue states.

I hope Troxler and No Carolina remember the response from DC in November 2026.

Only disappointed? I would be furious!

This is certainly bad news, but is there more to this story? It just doesn’t make sense. I hope this isn’t part of his plan to eliminate FEMA. Personally, I don’t think FEMA has been a a successful agency. Money would be better spent by the states than the feds and the impact would a lot quicker.

The question is will money be allocated to the states if needed, and even if it is would it be done in a timely fashion? My guess is the states will either be on their own or the money will take a lot of time to get where it needs to go, not to mention there will be no supply line in place. As amateurish and unprofessional this admin is I sure wouldn't count on it.

And don't forget this https://www.politico.com/news/2024/10/03/helene-trump-politics-natural-disaster-00182419

or there may be strings attached:

What monies?
The annual funding FEMA receives should be allocated to the states for their own emergency management agencies thereby bypassing the federal bureaucracy of pettiness, mismanagement, ridiculous rules and regulations.

The FDA is canceling the temporary program.

"As a pandemic-era program, LFPA will now be sunsetted at the end of the performance period, marking a return to long-term, fiscally responsible initiatives. This isn’t an abrupt shift—just last week, USDA released over half a billion in previously obligated funds for LFPA and LFS to fulfill existing commitments and support ongoing local food purchases,” a USDA spokesperson said in a statement.

“With 16 robust nutrition programs in place, USDA remains focused on its core mission: strengthening food security, supporting agricultural markets, and ensuring access to nutritious food.”

And you think this admin is capable of that? You're kidding right? The next disaster is going to be one big cluster****. Mark my words.

Some will suffer. Some will die. The very rich will feast. It's the Republican party.

One can't make America great again without allowing the Natural Order to progress as it should.

MAGA!!!

The feds track record of success isn’t exactly stellar.

Ah.
thereby bypassing the federal bureaucracy of pettiness, mismanagement, ridiculous rules and regulations.
Thereby promoting 50 plus different bureaucracies of pettiness, mismanagement, ridiculous rules and regulations spreading across North America, at least one ocean and of course THE GULF OF AMERICA.

Yeah, what could go wrong.

So how would this idea guarantee States would be best using these Federal Monies?

Mostly biodegradable. Some of us have parts and pieces that aren't so organic. ;)
I have some surgical pins (I think they're still there,) fillings, and crowns. These will be reincorporated into the earth during my cremation either by a funeral home or when the sun dies.

Do you have links to back up your claim or is this just your opinion?

It's easy to trash a government agency if you want to be negative. Responding to a natural disaster can be massive and complicated.

What if I said FEMA has had a lot of successes, and from what I have heard from victims the people on site were professional, hard working, and timely in their response.

The only real failure that I know of was the response to Hurricane Katrina, which was a massive undertaking, and when a president appoints a man to be in charge whose only qualification was working with horses...
