"Let’s start with our military and civil service, communities with which I have had a lifetime of experience and maintain close contact. The fear in the Pentagon today is palpable. The firings of general officers without cause have sent a chilling message to everyone in uniform. ...Both the targeted removals of senior military leaders and the mass firings of members of our federal civil service that are taking place are unprecedented and clearly designed to eliminate dissent, replace professionals with political loyalists and create a climate of fear. Next...The Trump administration is attempting to coerce major law firms into refusing to represent clients whom it disfavors and to represent clients it favors. Among the many lawyers I know, this is widely seen as a direct assault on the foundation of our legal system.

...a group of graduate students and professors at Harvard... were concerned about the effect of the administration’s unmistakable attacks on academic freedom and freedom of speech on campus. While Harvard as an institution has the resources and will to fight back, the loss of funding for research and the fear of interrupted studies are very real for the faculty and students there and elsewhere.

The administration has threatened prosecutions against former government officials and private citizens. It has threatened companies with the loss of government contracts and threatened nonprofit organizations across the country with cuts to funding. This climate of menace and apprehension extends to companies’ willingness to employ or associate with those who criticize Mr. Trump or his administration. I am one of those people.

Mr. Trump’s use of fear as a weapon has been most pronounced with undocumented immigrants and communities of immigrants more broadly. Certainly, Americans strongly support deporting undocumented immigrants who are violent criminals. But the Trump administration has terrorized immigrants from all walks of life, including those in the United States legally.

The author didnt even mention the fear used to prevent women from controlling their own bodies or to prevent transgenders from presenting their authentic selves.

Roy Cohen's mentee in the White House brings an new Age of McCarthyism upon us, where the only requirement is unquestioned loyalty to one man, or else.

It is, of course, a time honored way to amass power, but it is sure to stifle the progress we need to make to effectively compete in the world.

The right people are afraid. Long over due.
I hate to break it to you, you're not one of them. You're not part of the club amassing power and pushing their foot down on the rest of our necks. You may think your enemy is scientists, researchers, and other people that are doing decent in life, but the people you're supporting think you and others are just cattle for them.

Trump's America.

We're stuck in this 3rd world shithole of Trump's making for another 3 1/2 years. Make the most of it, those of you who are forced to hang around. The smart ones will get the hell out of here and find a better life overseas.

If one's desire is for the slow or sometimes quick collapse of governance, sure. Surely you realize where this road takes us, because once it becomes a tit for tat exercise, each transition of power between political parties becomes more about revenge than it does actually governing.

Trump and his wealthy cronies wouldn't cross the street to piss on rank and file MAGAts if they were on fire. That's what makes their undieing support for him so puzzling. I suppose they have been conditioning for decades by the Conservative Entertainment Complex to support anything that triggers liberals. Strange times we live in.

Nazi shit.

The funniest part is that Hitler would've thought 90% of MAGA was composed of dysgenic mutant ghoul untermensch and promptly put them on trains.

"The right people are afraid." he says as he takes a giant hit of his high fructose big gulp and struggles to read basic english.

I am in fact now all about that.

But why wait to make a MAGA's life miserable? It's not hard to do.

Be careful of what you wish for. I remember a good friend's father telling me about how things went to the crapper in Jamaica when the two main political parties (JLP and the PNP) were so polarized their political conflicts became armed confrontations in the street.

Who said armed confrontations?

A little imagination is all that is required to make them miserable in a nonviolent way. Hell, everyone I know has basically just cut MAGAs out of everything and that alone was a good start. There are plenty of equally effective and even funnier things you can do without breaking a single law.

A leaders job is not to divide and scare his people...........a nine-year old could do what trump has done so far....................and it was a nine-year-old mentality that put this bozo in office.....

Who said armed confrontations?
No one, but it's hard not to see that possibility anymore.

Right, but there's a limit to that before things get violent. We know this from oh so many examples from history.

If you want a police state, move to North Korea.

That would be self-defense from the left.

Well, they're certainly welcome to try.

You're a smart guy, dude, but this post reeks of Chuck Schumer.
Chuck Schumer did not endorse my post. It doesn't take that much smarts to see where this path leads. What's interesting is that the grievance crowd getting played by the GOP is what contributed to Trump's ascendancy, so I'm not sure what scenario you're imagining where things get better considering how downgraded things are now politically.
