Doesn't address what I said. Saying they should keep it or that it's not disrespectful (opinion) doesn't say they define the word as prideful and respectful.
It means that 71% think it is.
No, it doesn't. It might mean they don't like change. It might mean they don't see the issue, as it's not them. And maybe it means they are not offended and thus assume no one else should be. But they were not asked the define the word, it doesn't tell us how they define it.
Regardless, it certainly means they regard its meaning as benign.
Which again means nothing. It doesn't define what the word means or if it offends those it actually refers to.
It does to those offended, and the word's definition is that it's offensive. And they have the right to protest and lobby for change. It doesn't matter if it offends anyone.

You do. But you don't have the right to make up facts to suit you. They have a right to do whatever they want. We have a right to ignore them.

Regarded, not defined. I might think the word table means a leaf eating alien from Mars. That would not mean the word is defined that way.

I'm not making anything up.
There are tons of people out there offended by nonsense... they need to grow up.
No, not really. If you were correct, then I can attach any meaning to any word. It doesn't work that way. And while the word gay did change to include a meaning you can find that meaning in the in the dictionary. It isn't just up to individuals.
Yes, you are. You provided a definition that doesn't exist.
It exists among most Americans, regardless of any dictionary entry.
Or we need to be open to not offending. We used to call it treating someone how you'd lke to be treated, common politeness.
No, it doesn't. And you've offered no evidence it does.
The point is that so many things offend people now that it is stupid. Women offended if you open the door for them. Calling a woman ma'am. Saying, hey see that guys shirt? Who's shirt? The black guys shirt (to single out who you are talking about) and somebody says... that's racist. I can go on and on about the stupid things people are offended by. They can piss in the wind.
I have. You're just in denial.
No, you haven't and I explained why.
Maybe, but a term with a clear history of a derogatory should not be considered that way.
Dictionary schmictionary.
Dictionaries are created or updated by surveying how words are actually used. If the dictionary says it is derogatory it is because it is often used derogatorily.
