Sure thing .....

Ron DeSantis says Florida is where "woke" goes to die. But does he actually mean history, the First Amendment or maybe jobs? After all, his war against Disney — a major employer in his state — threatens to kill off billions in investments and thousands of jobs.

Bodily autonomy? That’s dying, too.

It’s where human rights go to die as well for those unlucky enough to come from poor and violent countries and whose labor plays an essential role in how things in this country function.

Last week, Desantis signed a vile and inhumane immigration bill imposing penalties and restrictions on undocumented immigrants in Florida that, among other things, bans local governments from issuing identification cards for people who can’t prove citizenship.

It criminalizes not just migrants — but any Florida resident who associates with them. This includes providing undocumented immigrants with work or transportation, which is why Miami Archbishop Thomas Wenski said it would criminalize “empathy."

The penalties — which haven’t even taken effect yet — will certainly have deadly consequences. This is what an undocumented immigrant told Telemundo’s Lourdes Hurtado, translated into English:

“They say they are going to check the hospitals. If you don’t have papers then it is scary to take care of yourself, and I am very sick right now and I need surgery ... My children tell me to go back to Mexico ... Because they are afraid.”

Already have a thread on this.

They shouldn't change the law for him to run. He'll forget about all the people in Florida suffering under his bizarre agenda, and won't look back. Not a good move for the state.

Imagine Fascist DeSantis in the white house...... which I suggest he will seek to protect himself from prosecution which could come his way. Ron is as reckless as Rump.

It'd be a shame if Florida were to find out that its economy depends on undocumented labor. ;)
Wait until all those aging Republican boomers in their gated communities and golf enclaves have to cut their grass and clean their own homes. DeSantis will be in deep doo-doo!

So an illegal immigrants own family is telling him to go back to Mexico rather then have the US taxpayers provide free surgery for someone who snuck into our country illegally.
And I am supposed to be upset about this why.

And why should people who employ illegals not get punished. I thought that was something many on the left claimed to support. I guess that was up until someone actually tried to do that.

I have always been vocal about charging those who hire illegals not just punishing the poor schlep trying to make a better life for themselves but the hypocrisy of this bill is palpable. DeSantis will never enforce this against employers.... never. To do so will end his political career at least in FL which is heavily dependent on illegal workers. This bill was just another one of his "for show" bills however, I think it will backfire on him because it will scare off those seeking employment and cause serious problems in construction, agri, and leisure. He is systematically alienating voting blocs one by one. Go look at Republican primary polls in FL .....DeSantis is tanking against Trump....in Florida!

You make this claim but yet like a post that was ranting about the fact that they passed a law that will punish employees of illegals. Hmmm.

And I don’t care about your predictions of what will happen in the future so you claiming what Desantis will enforce is meaningless.

Reactionary politics and movements have always been a kind of despair ending in murder-suicide.

So, is Florida actually in serious financial difficulty, or is this all an imagined fever dream?

First of all, we already have laws that punish employers who hire illegals. That's not the only thing in this new law. It goes well beyond that.

You can say what you want about it, but the results will be terrible for Florida. We're already seeing this start. And what's even worse, I'm not a Florida resident, thank God, but I will pay higher prices for food because of DeFascist's BS. It will affect everyone nationwide.

Someone give that man a spoon.

do not move to Florida....you are not needed..if you are a migrant -we'll gladly send you anywhere else

Who's going to re-roof your house when the next hurricane blows through? And it will blow through.

Yes we have laws but they are very rarely enforced. Hopefully this will change that.
Sorry I just don’t care too much about punishing illegals or the people who help and or employ them.

What are those terrible results going to be exactly.
You mean companies will have to pay workers more. Oh the horror.
So I take it you don’t support the left in all the recent minimum wage increases right?

That you support keeping a poor second class population so you can save money on food is rather telling.
And not very progressive.

I have a home in FL and spend a lot of time there. The demographics are very different than elsewhere. There is a disproportionate number of retired people to younger people and the younger people tend to work in the leisure and food industry that services tourists.

The hotel industry is huge as is the restraunt industry thus a huge demand for housekeeping services , dish washers, grounds keepers etc

There is also a huge demand for unskilled construction workers because of repeated hurricane damage and re-roofing insurance requirements. Then there is the agri business and their need for pickers.

There simply is not the quantity of low skilled workers available to meet the demand.....there simply isn't. FL doesn't need this law what they desperately need is a guest worker programme.
