There are many failures attributed to Ralph Gonsalves. The primary failure among them is his inability to control the debt and economy. The economic downfall of St. Vincent and Grenadines has hit the country worse than the hurricane that tore through it a couple of weeks back. There was a time when the country had a prosperous economy, thanks to the tourism department. With Ralph’s misrule and undemocratic ways reaching new highs, foreign tourists have stopped coming in. The fiscal health of the state suffered badly. An indifferent Ralph Gonsalves didn’t help matters either. He was more interested in machinations and political strategies to survive.
The national debt has ballooned beyond comprehension. The Prime Minister was busy plotting murders of people who didn’t like the way he was running the country. Comrade Ralph hardly had time to think of the citizens and what they are going to live on. He was more concerned about his own welfare. He could not make state run endeavors like NCB, Food City and GESCO work. Moreover, he couldn’t foster a spirit of nationality among the Vincentians. In fact, his rule was one of creating factions within the country and pitted them against each other.
