The Federal Aviation Administration will embark on an ambitious three-year plan to modernize America's air traffic control systems and phase out the "outdated technologies that are unable to meet" modern demands, officials said Thursday.

Finally. Long overdue. Good news that this is finally a priority. Hopefully Congress steps up - bipartisan support for this initiave has already been signaled, but who knows if it will hold.

Duffy acknowledged the administration will need considerable assistance from Capitol Hill.

"I need help. I can’t do it by myself, and it’s going to take the help of the Congress to make that happen," he said. "So to do it in three or four years, we need all of the money up front."

Don't you worry he's gonna spend that money super carefully and he'll never ask for additional money in the very near future.

It’s funny how republicans only support something when we all pretend they came up with the idea.

Oh well, hopefully we get some real engineers working on it and not Big Balls with his little teenager friends.

I'm not sure this is a Republican thing?

But this has been a problem for years. And the fact that it is trying to be addressed is good, yes?

As noted, it will take both Republicans and Democrats in Congress to fund this - I can't imagine anyone opposing this, however.

It’s wild how you’ll hold it against democrats for spending money and won’t even credit them for working together like this, something republicans basically never do.

When have I been against democrats spending money? Specifically?

And have they used this money to fund a revamp of the FAA control systems? Because if they have, that would be great... but it seems like they haven't, considering all the planes crashing lately.

Links to me opposing this?

You MAGA posters sometimes just throw anything you can at progressives, and then run away...

I didn’t mean for you to take my comment personally.

I’m fine with the system finally getting the funding for the overhaul.

Great news after the idiot in charge let DOGE fire 400 FAA employees.

Contractors will provide the solution. I suspect they will leverage off military applications. I read somewhere once that one E2-Hawkeye could handle all Chicago Center sectors simultaneously.

Didn't they do the same thing around 20 years ago? This is no small project. I just don't have faith in the Trump administration with all their loyalty picks to run the government. When the economic leaders enact tariffs on islands with zero human populations; the competency seems lacking.

Anyway, all we hear from most of the fiscal hawks is that America's broke. I just wonder how we find the money for massive tax cuts but can't fix our biggest American safety system.

There is no doubt in my mind that we possess the tech to get this done. I am not convinced the current leadership in this government is up to the task. I also don't see how they justify the expense as long as they plan to hand out huge tax cuts.

I heard an Aviation expert this morning discuss this whole situation. In the short term, it's imperative that we do emergency hiring for more controllers and staff. That's counter to Elons plan as he already fired a bunch of FAA and ATC staff. Which is it?

And guess who might get the contract for the upgrades?

3 guesses, but you'll only need one.

Yeah, you have to wonder about the quality of work when the hiring of people to do it isn't necessarily based on merit.

We don't need people that know the old system. We need people that know the new system.
There is no "new system" so we need people who know the old system until a new one is implemented. If copper wires are burning in Newark that's the old system. ;)

They need both.

This topic obviously caught my eye as I decided to take a break from that other post I just did and then I suppose I should not be surprised at how rapidly this topic went into "Hate You/Them" political rants.

I'm beginning to understand the sadness of the whole situation for so many of you; the hate that you have allowed into your minds is tainting every thought process and that is sad.

You'll immediately counter, in your own mind before addressing me, that it isn't hate that has so much influence on your thought processes of ALL topics, but this thread about a topic that could involve the lives of well over 70% of the nation's citizens so rapidly going down that "Hate You/Them" path before other, more helpful thought processes kick in; that is just sad. Really sad.

And maybe it isn't more than "70%" of people that will climb on a bird, but it is a whole bunch of your fellow citizens. AND they may be influenced by an accident/incident even if not on the bird.

An ATC's job and the equipment needed to do that job; have any of you really got a full picture in your head of just how complicated that job is? I would bet that most of you haven't a clue what goes into getting a bird to rotate, travel an air corridor, and do an approach and get 'wheels down' safely; and maybe comfortably, in most cases. That comfort factor is kind of a biggie, but even if the pacs exit the bird as angry for that sharp jolt upon wheels down, the PIC is still breathing a sigh of relief that all his charges are safe.

By the way, an odd tidbit of information I can add that some of you may not know. Here in Japan, our U.S. ATCs have priority over a whole bunch of the airspace around the Kanto area. Isn't that weird.

Anyway, next time one of you folks walk onto the bird on a given flight, be sure you ask the flight attendant if that particular bird is a Democratic Party loyal bird, or maybe a Republican Party loyal bird, or maybe even an Independent - - - OH MY; maybe even a communist bird. Better be careful, too, about discussing politics while in flight. If the majority of the pacs are Republican folks and the bird is actually partial to the Left leaning side of politics, that bird may ignore the PIC and hit that active really hard when landing.

Or maybe you think an aircraft is an inanimate object. I can assure you, all those birds are just like their smaller cousins up there. Sometimes they even gobble up a cousin or two in those big noisy things called jets.

Nothing more than a vailed attempt to defend Elon's cuts.

We see right through it !!
Imagine how pissed people will be when they found out Elon was cutting these people many months ago, which is why these incidents happened several times last year under Biden and Elon.

I can't believe how much power he had under Biden, and now Trump, and why anyone ever bought his products or gave him or his companies money.

Did they?

Was that another Republican in office then? And no updates for twenty years?

No wonder all these incidents are happening; glad this is finally being addressed!

Just leaving this here. This admin is a congregation of liars and ghouls. Selfish scumbags that will let everyone die as long as they are safe and profit.

This is absurd! There was nothing wrong with air traffic systems before Trump and now he wants to come in and change everything! Somebody in congress needs to put a stop to this!

Who was the executive from 2017-2021?

Who was the executive from 2017-2021?
Was this a problem back then? Was it part of the "Build Back Better" plan in 2021-2024? Was it a problem in 2009-2016?

So many questions and no answers except....TRUMP SUCKS SO WE HAVE TO BLAME HIM FOR EVERYTHING AND PREVENT HIM FROM GETTING CREDIT FOR ANYTHING!
