and i have to side with matt
necessity IS a mother
Mother of invention
make the alternative cost of hand picked production significantly higher and you have then incentivized the market to come up with a cheaper alternative
Totally true. But for thousands of years olive growers have never found that invention.
I know. Who would think a POTUS would hold sole authority to launch missiles at people on a pre-composed kill list? That's out of this world isn't it?
And if it were a Republican President taking out foreign enemies or ex-patriot traders, how would you feel about it?
I have no problem with drone bombing training camps, hide outs, stockpiles, communication centers -- anything to wipe extremists off the face of the planet.
Who are we to say we're right? We're Superman, and with great power comes great responsibility. President Obama and those that fight terrorists carry that burden.
Could this be a potential problem -- ultimate power ultimately corrupts? Dick Cheney? WMD lies taking us into war?
That's why the integrity of the 4th estate is so important--so that corrupted officials always get exposed.
Didn't they use slave labor and dirt cheap labor for thousands of years to pick olives?

The typical "well, they did it too" response. Two wrongs don't make a right.
And don't preach to me about WMD's, Iraq, etc. You didn't have to go fight the war that you knew was based on fautly intel.
It's funny that people such as yourself don't see an issue with the drone program. If another country flew drones over out land and dropped Hellfires on us, we'd be going to war.
It is beautiful right now. I have been sitting on my deck enjoying the hillside and the woods. I regret that someday I shall die and leave all of this behind.I miss 'Bama.
How's Huntsville right now? I'm hoping to get a job there sometime towards the end of next year. Send my boys through Grissom, maybe.
Yep. The law has its usual detractors. But it is working just fine.
Fair enough. I can't believe you trust the media, but, to each his own.But I'm not saying it's wrong. You failed to correctly read and understand my post. I'm saying I support any President who goes after enemies for the right reasons. I trust the check and balances in our system and I encourage the 4th estate, news media, to be ever diligent.
If you've never noticed, I am just as critical of neocons. A neocon, just so happens, isn't the POTUS right now. That Governor Romney implies he would continue the war mongering we have engaged in is the single reason I won't vote for him. I will never vote for anyone who thinks its okay to go to war with a country simply because we don't like what they're doing.I was asking you a rhetorical question that implied you were being a hypocrite with regard to your criticism of President Obama.
I would reverse that argument. How are liberals critical of something that doesn't cause permanent damage, doesn't kill anyone, and gained us valuable intel but okay with indiscriminantly killing people, including civilians, with nothing gained other than a body count? Granted, neither are okay (although waterboarding isn't torture IMO), but the hypocrisy runs rampant.Relaying facts on record is not 'preaching'. I'm noting the lack of criticism about an unjust war vs. the current criticism toward justified military action. The right was okay with 'enhanced interrogation' but using intel to take out high-value targets is somehow bad because it's President Obama.
I think we are morally justified in taking out the guys who master minded it. That doesn't take hundreds of thousands of trooops, nation buildiing, and billions of dollars. For all of the troops deployed, turns out we got the intel for OBL from somewhere that had nothing to do with the military and an operation conducted by a small group of elite special ops guys. Not a Regimental Combat Team of Marines or Brigade Combat Team of soldiers.I recall several planes filled with people and jet fuel being hijacked in flown into buildings. That is a legitimate reason to go to war. Though the action was not sponsored by any one particular country, (e.g. Japan Pear Harbor) we are still morally justified in wiping every terrorist cell off the face of the earth. Unfortunately, weeding your yard is a process that never seems to end.
Something is going seriously wrong when a governor has to sign a exec order to basically follow a law? I really cannot understand how any of the illegal immigration issues are issues when they technically are not even here in the 1st place. And when they are discovered here, they should um... be deported. I heard they do that in other countries. Not sure what the problem is that we are running into anymore with this country.I hope other states follow suit. The easiest way of doing that is to require that in order to get and or renew a driver's licenses/IDs you must show birth certificate or a certificate of naturalization and a social security card an then require that in order to enroll into school, enroll kids into school, get welfare, voter registration, foodstamps, business license and another else you must present your Arizona state issued ID and social security card. This way no one can fraudulently claim their is racial profiling. Besides that federal law already bans illegals from getting benefits.
Executive order from Governor Jan Brewer blocks IDs, benefits for illegal immigrants
PHOENIX - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has signed an executive order directing state agencies to deny driver's licenses and other public benefits to young illegal immigrants who obtain work authorizations under a new Obama administration program.
Brewer's order issued Wednesday says she's reaffirming the intent of current Arizona law denying taxpayer-funded public benefits and state identification to illegal immigrants.
snip...
Brewer's order says the program's federal paperwork doesn't confer lawful status on illegal immigrants and won't entitle them to Arizona public benefits.
She directs state agencies to start emergency rulemaking processes as necessary to implement her order.
