I posted this in one of my local groups but wanted to reflect on others here. My life or my daughters lives could have been gone in an instant. Fortunately, everyone is alive
Hopefully the right person sees this and someone has video. For the rest if you are young or have teens and young adults that like fast cars. Sit and remind them that every action good or bad has consequences. Today just after lunch we were traveling westbound coming back to Douglasville from my weekly trip to South Carolina to be with my mom.
Anyhow, I was very sleepy and was just trying to get home. I checked my surroundings and moved over a lane to the left because I needed to stay on 20W and 75/85 is right there as the HOV ends. Anyhow as I slowed I realized, like a traditional Atlanta driver that I was doing 75 in a 60 zone and looked for cops and started slowing. As I looked in my mirror again I saw three cars coming towards us in the HOV at a very high speed. I slowed more hoping they wouldn’t hit me or someone else. As the black Mustang flew past I noticed a white Porshe SUV right behind him and a dark grey car that I originally thought was a Dodge, but would later see its a Camaro. Anyhow when the Porshe went passed me he nearly hit me and barely moved back then in front of me . I told my daughter they are going to kill someone they’re racing look. Then they moved from HOV to the further lanes and sideswiped a white Tacoma and clipped the back corner of a Beige GMC pickup truck and the truck started to roll over and over. I said omg what did I just tell you. I told her we have to stop that person is probably not alive and they need a witness that cars were racing. Several of us stopped and all of us told the first police officer that the cars that caused it were racing and doing well over 100 mph. So we were all instructed to stay there as it was a crime scene and wait for GSP. Fortunately, the guy wasn’t killed but was hurt and bleeding. My heart broke for him. I can’t imagine how scary that was and how quickly your life can change in the blink of an eye.
What Im hoping is someone had dash cam and caught the racers. While the camaro was stuck there because
of the damage the other 2 fled the scene and none of them checked on that poor man.
The female passenger fled into the woods and the guy driving was caught, but the other 2 also need to be held accountable for their actions.
Beyond that talk to your kids about racing and how it can destroy lives quickly. If they want to race there is an appropriate time and place and that’s on a race track. Im old now and have kids, but I talked to them and admitted that when I was young I had a very fast Mustang, but my uncle talked to me about consequences and that you cannot bring someone back to life.
If any of you caught it on dash cam or saw it please reach out to me. If not please take the time to talk to the younger folks and teach them about actions and consequences

And yes I admitted I was speeding to the GSP trooper. He chuckled as I said please don’t write me a ticket I have to admit the truth. I was going 75 and yes I know its 60 I really apologize. He didn’t give me a ticket thank goodness

Sorry to hear about that, I hate illegal street racing. It's crazy they feel bold enough to do it on a busy street middle of the day but if your city is anything like mine, they turn a blind eye to speeders until it's too late.

I am glad you and your daughter are okay. :)

My daughters they both were in the car. Im glad too and yes, Atlanta has to be among the worst of people always being in a damned hurry

Glad you're okay and the guy wasn't injured more than he was.
What a scary moment that must have been.
I hope they catch everyone involved.

I'm really glad you're okay!

Street racing is stupid. Real drivers bring it to the track.
