European Union is the organisation that has a long lasting and deeply rooted beliefs that liberty is playing the key role.

Its the liberty of the market , the liberty of the trade.

EU is based on the structure where the most important is to help poorer countries that belong to it by the richer one.

As for today European Union is lucky.

So what will be the future of EU?

What do you think?

Cause in my opinion it will be wider than it is now.

And thanks to some rights and regulations poorer countries from EU , will get even more help.

HAVE YOUR SAY.

It seems hard to accept that the EU is driven by liberty. It is true that it started as a free trade area, which is liberal in itself. But it is made up of many countries with very different cultures. Some of these cultures are not liberal but quite the opposite. Also the European Constitution was invoked as a Treaty instead of as a Constitution, because populations had been asked if they wanted the Constitution and they had said no. That was not liberal, is a birthmark that has infected the whole body politic and is festering throughout the Union.

EU is not an organization it is a space for interaction. There is no finality because relations are never fixed and static.

That is because you have forgotten what it was like before the single market... once we needed visas to go to Spain, France, UK... Once all electronics made in France and sold to Germany had to go through one specific border crossing that was only open once a week. Once all German wine sold to France had to go through one specific border crossing. Once most countries had one phone company, one power company, one water company, one gas company and so on. All this has changed because of the EEC/EU driving liberty and openness into its members.

It was started as a free trade union and in the 1990s became a political union.

The political union was created to keep a united Germany under check and prevent it from becoming too powerfull.

Ironicaly the EU made us powerfull (not the political - but the economic union)

I would wish a return to the free trade union principles since some of the regulations put in place by the EU parlaiment are annoying or make no sence.

political union was not created for keeping Germany down. it was the idea of original ECSC together with other important goals to achieve - including politically united Europe. Maastricht was only a partial accomplishment as we see now, because the Eu is still far from the intended finalite.

The EU has reached the point where, in order to defend the current structure, it's elites are forced into ever-more-undemocratic moves that are fostering the very nationalism that the EU hoped to avoid.

So. What Cannell said.
