I'm not the least bit surprised. Now it's being reported that some departments are hiring back terminated employees on contract. Downsizing is a good thing but it must be done thoughtfully or the cost of the mess created can easily exceed the benefits. Hiring somebody back on contract can also cost way more. I know that because when I was younger I did it and my price tag went way up.

Yeah, there's that too. You would think every person who lives here who has origins south of the border was a Venezuelan gang member by the way he and his supporters speak. Even people who are here on work/education visas are being treated that way.

One of my best friends got fired because his company "restructured". He was middle management.

He took a $67k buyout (or whatever his company called it).

Then another worker announced their retirement the next week or so (after my friend had already signed the paperwork for the $67k package) and they immediately rehired him for that job for his same salary as before (or damn close to it).

So he made $67k EXTRA for that one year.
