FFS...our country has an education crisis. Its so bad that San Francisco just announced their plan to improve graduation rates...by lowering the graduation Grading percentages to 21% as a 'passing' grade. Meanwhile...we are debt spending 100s of millions of dollars to 'improve' education in Afghanistan ( do you believe that is actually happening?) Lebanon, etc.

I have no idea tbh. Maybe the program was total bullshit, maybe it was well meaning bullshit, maybe it was well meaning and effective. No clue and I don't have time to dig into every USAID program and decide for myself which make sense and which don't. At some point you have to trust that the people spending your money know what they're doing and the auditors are keeping them honest. There's really no alternative to that.
It was also a single program and even if it was total bullshit that's justification to end it - not end the entire organization.
Look I agree with you we have education problems and financial problems and poor people who can't afford food etc that need to be addressed. USAID's budget in 2024 was 21 billion about 0.3% of all federal spending. DoD's budget was around 841 billion (13% of federal spending) as was second only to social security which will never be cut unless politicians want
