Back when Joe was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee in 1991, he was impressive. A very different person than he became by the turn of the century. But in that moment--"It is over."--a little of that old Joe came shining through.
I'm one of the weird ones I guess who would have preferred Joe over Obama. And deep down I suspect that had he run for President this last go round, we might be talking about President Biden instead of President Trump. But if not, then certainly the popular vote would have been even more skewed than it was.
I got a kick out of watching Ryan smiling through the whole thing and finally at the end just cracked up when Biden informed the Democrats it was over.
Can you imagine the uproar in the press if the Republicans had done this to Obama?

Imagine? They did something more cynical and ugly: spend several years accusing Obama of lying about his place of birth and religion, while in congress, agreeing to oppose whatever policies he might seek to pursue (and then following through on it).
Are we really forgetting the right's sustained efforts to cast doubt on the legitimacy of Obama's Presidency?
I think you're right. Joe lost his moment... for nothing.
I liked Joe Biden too. He would have been a much better candidate for the Dems than Hillary.
I've often wondered why he chose not to run?
I can only imagine it was part of some deal worked out with Hillary back when Obama first ran to guarantee her turn to run as the "first Woman President" when he left office.

I've encountered far too many who did believe to agree with you.I think you over-estimate how many Americans believed any of that baloney.

"Still, 20 percent of all Americans believe Obama was born outside the United States, with nine percent bizarrely claiming to have solid evidence to prove it."

20% of 320 million is 64 million. That's more than the number of Americans who voted for Trump. I would suggest that you underestimate the gullibility of many Americans.
Can you imagine the uproar in the press if the Republicans had done this to Obama? As it seems to be now, the focus is on how Biden after five minutes of this silliness finally shut them down with his one liner - "It is over."
I got a kick out of the Reuters article, that didn't admit that it was only Democrats doing this, just referring to them all as "members" objecting, and only mentioned the term Democrat when they spin at the end by bringing up the Russian hacking. I laughed and just shook my head.
