The U.S. has exclusive jurisdiction and responsibility over migrants Trump sent to prison in El Salvador, according to filings at the United Nations

Stunning revelation:

"In the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s unlawful transfer of hundreds of migrants to a torture prison in El Salvador, the administration claimed that it had no legal authority to bring them back to the United States. Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele claimed, in turn, that he did not “have the power” to return wrongfully deported migrants, and wouldn’t even if he did.

On Monday, lawyers for the Venezuelan men filed documents before District Judge James Boasberg in Washington, D.C., showing that the Salvadoran government told the United Nations that the U.S. retains ultimate authority over the men the Trump administration shipped to CECOT, the infamous mega-prison in El Salvador.

The documents directly undercut statements made publicly by top Trump administration officials. They also contradict statements made in the case before Boasberg, which involves the transfer of hundreds of Venezuelan men to El Salvador, as well as in the case involving Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was illegally sent to prison in El Salvador despite a “protection from removal” order prohibiting him from being deported there."

This is a big deal. The Trump administration can no longer deny legal responsibility for the detainees because the U.S. has jurisdiction over them. The Courts can now assert habeas corpus jurisdiction, order the detainees to be returned, force the government to allow the detainees access to lawyers, and determine the legality of the detentions. Since we know these detainees were tortured the U.S. is now in breach of the Convention Against Torture and U.S. government officials now face criminal liability such as perjury, obstruction of justice, and aiding acts of torture.

el salvador is starting to rethink their role in this, and wisely is going to be claiming they are just paid contractors for their employer, trump, putting all the legal responsibility on him.

but seriously this is the only thing which made sense from the beginning, el salvador had no personal interest in these people, they weren't wanted el salvadorian terrorists, el salvador just saw an opportunity to make some money and gain some favor from trump.

"BUHBUHBUH...Stephen Miller assured us we had no jurisdiction and could not violate the sovereignty of another nation! He wouldn't have lied, this has to be a lib media smear!"

Ok.

Wow more blatant lying. What a shock from an administration hellbent on fascism.

It was a lie from the start...right from the chummy, 'wink wink' conversation for the cameras in the WH that day between TACO and the ES president.
And made more obvious when Abrego Garcia met with Van Hollan and could have just been released to his custody and gotten on his plane.
MAGA turned into 🥨's trying to wave all that away and claim "TACO couldnt do it." "No longer had any control or jurisdiction" over him or the others. Yeah...they ate that up...I've got some ocean-front property for sale in Kansas to show them.
