I think what is missing here is the big picture.. During the first 30 years of the oil business in Arabia, Americans were involved in every aspect of development.. from building roads and power plants.. to drilling water wells, to eradicating Malaria, to education and training up a Saudi labor force...to constant negotiation with the SAG and the king.
The American community was quite small.. and everyone was a designated diplomat. We were taught that we came to get the oil NOT to reform Arab culture or act as missionaries.
That may be difficult for someone who works for Kroger Corporation or GE etc.. in the US to wrap their head around.
Yes, we did much good for the Arab community without expecting anything but fair trade didn't we? Heh, imperialists I think not. But, you're on to something here, see in your insult of my profession you failed to recognise that we were actually starting a civil conversation before you let Adam pull you back to trollville. Shame really.

We? Were you involved?
No, other than being a voting American. Does that mean that I am not allowed an opinion?

LOLOL, the success of ARAMCO was about keeping the US government OUT of the equasion. The men who made it happen were REAL Americans from Texas, Oklahoma, California etc.

Gheeze, we didn't see this one coming right?....Oh wait, we did too...In fact it is exactly what we said would happen. What a mess. Funny how the Islamist group MB sounds just like liberal progressives here in America doesn't it?Using a crisis to grab power, changing their name to soften the appeal to the masses, etc....j-mac
Wait a second. A political party wants to have power and thinks that their opposition isn't doing a good job?
I've seen this before. Where was that again? Wasn't democracy in the region one of the foreign policy goals of the right back in 2003? I guess I'm wrong. Democracy = bad, my mistake.
Oh please...I suppose that Hamas is just a political party as well eh?

Regardless of what you think of them, would you rather Mubarak was still in power?
Would you want the US military to go in and make Egypt's politics something we like?
I don't know what another solution would be...
I didn't say that did I? Although, Mubarak was what held Egyptian peace with Israel for decades. The 'Brotherhood' is just another band of thugs that seeks destruction of Israel. So, great, what a win.
Didn't say that either.
So strawman fallacies are all you have? Ok. Thanks.

Trying to see what your solution to the problem is. Do you have one or not?
I doubt it.. Israel just isn't that important.
Is that sarcasm? Israel is the most important country on earth. More important than ours.
Not to me it's not. Nor should it be to anybody who claims to be a proud American.

You do realize that the majority of Americans support Israel, for you to infer that those that do are somehow unAmerican is deplorable.

Put it another way... if I were German, I would care a lot more about Israeli domestic politics than American domestic politics.

Israel is about the size of New Jersey and has the 40th largest economy in the world.
Except the notion that all surrounding countries desire Israel's total destruction is an oft repeated lie... and serves an obvious political purpose.
