Now that Republicans are rightly putting kids back to work where will you send your children?

The choices will be simple and it's mines or sweatshops as all kids love working in those.
Choose now!!!!!!!

My kin worked as children. Farming and Milk production. As soon as they could walk and talk they were put to work.

the world is TRULY ending today

youth working - omg !

FWIW I started working around 12 years old, never stopped, never not had a job since ..... working is GOOD. Kids today could use a little more working IMO. I see nothing wrong with it at all

why would anyone be against youth working ?

Do you think it's a good idea to have kids working and being tired at school?

those two are not dependent on each other

youth can work AND not be "tired at school" at the same time you know

or maybe you don't know ??

I would rather kids concentrate on school so they can get better grades and worry about work later.

There's more to life than work but I suppose you don't agree with that?

the USA continues to decline in education .... how's that working ?

and again working has nothing much to do with grades/schools ..... we're not talking 40 hours working in steel mills at night and then going to school all day you know (or maybe you don't ???)

there is - and there is also great value in working and earning, being productive, accomplishing things and earning the rewards for doing it

maybe you don't understand that

Children should be going to school in the day and playing, not going to work, in the afternoon. They only get one childhood. Let them enjoy it!

So you think the US education system is failing because kids aren't going to work?
You think adding work on top of school will somehow help?

There's a reason almost all the developed world has stopped child working, can you guess what that is?

how's that philosophy worked ?

Yes, it's true that fewer kids are working jobs compared to previous generations. Teenagers are less likely to hold part-time jobs, especially during the summer, than they were in the past. Several factors contribute to this trend, including a greater emphasis on education, increased availability of summer programs and camps, and changing attitudes towards work
Yes, there is evidence suggesting a decline in some areas of U.S. education. Test scores in math and science have declined, and there's a growing concern about the number of students, particularly in higher education.

If the premise is that working is intrinsically bad, then of course children working will be bad too.

I'm saying work is good, always has been

I'm also saying that in the last 20-30 years, kids have worked less and less

and education has continually declined

that's an absolute fact

Quite right. Get the little bastards back under the looms. Those bobbins aren't going to change themselves.

Hurray! We're Malaysia!

In Europe where child labour is illegal its worked wonders.

Dammit, I forgot about the cottonmills.

Surely kids don't need all their fingers and can lose a few in mill accidents?

I know. I didn't get a real job until the summer I was 14 or 15.

Prior to that, I had friends who worked. My friend who lived on a farm always had all sorts of tasks he had to do that interfered with playtime. It was horrible. One friend had to schedule everything around his morning newspaper route, and the Saturdays he had to collect the subscription money. Another had commitments to mow various people's lawns.

I don't know how they survived the deprivation of playtime.

You're trying to spin straw into gold.

Yes, but you're civilized.

Just sit back and watch America go back to the gilded age by public acclaim.

Don't try to get in the way of the stupid. Stupid is an unstoppable force.

Yep, the industrial revolution was such a wonderful time for business.
Expecting decent working conditions is for wimps and losers and all that matters is maximising profits.

To hear them talk, you'd think 16 year olds were prohibited from working.

They want 8 year olds working.

No, I am sitting here watching presumably intelligent bipeds talk about how important it is to get their kids back in the coal mines where they belong.

I didn't see any such post.
