On t.v. Democrats are condemning the violence at the capitol (as they should). But when cities were burning and private property was being destroyed most were strangely silent. This isn't my opinion, it's a fact.

Is whatabouting the Trump supporter's behavior yesterday considered deflection, hypocrisy or a double standard?

A few fires and broken windows is not even remotely the same as literally invading the US Capitol. Not even in the same league.

If you refuse to see that, then I'm afraid we're done here. 🤷‍♂️

Where is your 'proof' it's a 'fact'? Please present it. Failure to do so will result in your positive claim being reduced to it merely being an 'opinion.' Thx.

The "DEMONSTRATIONS" of last year were definately punctuated by violence; but when the violence was investigated it was found that it was perpatrated by extreemist groups from accross the politcal spectrum, not, just, "Leftists". Yesterday's sacking of the Capitol was all on Benidict Donald and his followers.

That is not a fact but no doubt it was the reporting you heard.

Democrats were not quiet. They condemned the violence but not the protests. The two things are very different just like yesterday. The protest was peaceful but it then turned into an unacceptable criminal event just like the riots in the Summer. What happened yesterday was a criminal event precipitated by a sitting President and his cohorts in order to over turn his electoral defeat.. Democrats condemned the violence during the riots and Trump supporters should be doing the same as it relates to yesterday but for the most part they aren't because they think what happened yesterday is acceptable. trump is a master at manipulation.

I agree.

The crocodile tears now being shed by Dems over violence is -- IMHO -- disgusting!

The Libs have condemned the violence on many occasions, if you really wanted to know that you would have had no trouble finding it.
What I am seeing is some on the right claiming that since some on the left did something wrong that it excuses what they did, meaning they themselves have a double standard.

Wrong again.

Kind of like how Cons flipped their shit over a Target being looted but twist their views to condone the Capital being looted.

Anyone who is a partisan will find a way to be strangely silent when it's their side acting up. I see plenty of people on both sides condemn both actions but like the partisan you are, you just want to point out the double standard of the "other side".

You might have a point if "a few fires and broken windows" was all that happened. You seem to be forgetting all the explosives thrown at court buildings and the officers protecting them, and the invasion of the city hall and multiple city blocks in Seattle for nearly a month, while many Dems spurred them on (while barely paying lip service to "condemning the violence.")

If Republicans condemn the "handful of violent protesters," while saying they support the right of the many others to protest peacefully, will you be satisfied? I doubt it.

The actual facts are:

• The overwhelming majority of protests were actually peaceful
• A lot of people on the left were advocating for peaceful protest
• There were, in fact, arrests for rioting -- though it turns out that it was right-wing extremists who wound up getting busted
• A lot of the violence that happened was provoked -- and committed -- by law enforcement
• None of the protests this summer wound up storming the Capitol
• None of the protests were trying to overthrow the government
• It is right-wingers this year who wanted to assassinate Democratic governors (Michigan), and who stormed multiple state capitols (Michigan and Oregon)

Spare us the false equivalencies, and false accusations of hypocrisy.

It was expected that I would read posts minimizing what’s been going for months in Portland and other locations across this nation. I’m outraged with what happened at the capital as was I outraged with the other. Curious how partisanship gives one amnesia.

Protesters walked into the lobby of City Hall. They were there for 30 minutes. They didn't trash the place. They weren't armed, and they weren't trying to overthrow the federal government.

We should also note that Seattle PD were frequently responding to protests with overwhelming force and violence -- tear gas, rubber bullets, kettling, mass arrests and so on. In fact, that kind of police response frequently causes protesters to react violently, which is why most riot police around the world are trained to de-escalate the situation.

In contrast, even given how one insurgent was shot, almost all of the Capitol Police treated the insurgents with kid gloves. They removed the barriers, they let them in the building, they took selfies with the insurgents.

Thanks, but no thanks, for the false equivalence.

Well, that depends.

Republicans who enabled Trump for 4 years, and now suddenly get queasy when he successfully incites his followers to overthrow the government, do not get a pass. Lindsay Graham, for example, is not excused for defending and encouraging Trump, over and over and over, and suddenly finding religion last night.

Republicans who objected to Trump's crimes and misdemeanors can certainly satisfy me by condemning the thousands of Trump supporters who tried to (ineptly) engineer a coup. Thus, while I disagree with Romney on many points, his condemnations of the insurgents yesterday is eminently credible, if not laudable.

LoL, good job responding to <1% of what was put in front of you.

In all fairness shouldn’t you wait to proclaim who all was involved until after the investigation? If those looking to raise hell would use one protest to mask their deeds why not use the other. You are jumping to the same conclusion that many did this summer after peacefully protest went to hell. Let the police do their jobs round up the thugs who broke the law then after all the factual data is compiled evaluate it.

No you're not. We just survived a literal insurrection incited by the President of the United States, and you're comparing it to just another protest that got out of hand.

Nothing like that has ever happened in our country's history. Not even during the Civil War.

as was I outraged with the other.

Your false equivalency is disgusting and summarily dismissed.

Is this another thread where we all pretend that the President inciting his supporters to storm the Capitol building and disrupt Congress isn't a new thing?

These Trump supporters throwing out their backs to find liberal hypocrisy in what happened yesterday can all go **** themselves.

Anyone who does that is human garbage. If I saw them on the bottom of my shoe, I'd throw the shoe away.

Good point to the other poster but we do know at least some are right wingers / QAnon / Proud Boys.
