Releasing a press report is easy. Proving facts in court is something else altogether... something the Trump administration is not very good at doing. I'm also curious why Harvard is the only school penalized by the Trump administration. None of the other ~6,000 universities and colleges in the US saw protests against Isreali war crimes in Gaza? I find that very difficult to believe. What is actually going on here is that Harvard - unlike other less-endowed universities - has refused to bend the knee to Donald Trump and curtail free speech rights. And the Trump WH didn't think this through very carefully either. Israeli students studying at Harvard would also be affected by the [illegal] foreign student ban.

It didn't take long for a Federal judge to bitch-slap the Trump administration in this regard.....

I am interested in hearing what the administration brings to the table, which if past cases are an example, will probably not be much. The details here are important to get a sense of what Harvard did to comply and what is an unreasonable request on the administration's part. We'll likely hear more about what the administration's claims about the kind of students Harvard is trying to protect, and if the criteria is as bad as those international students targeted for visa cancellation (Öztürk, Khalil etc.), then there's a good chance this is will not fare well for the administration.
 
Harvard may win on the legal front. But what foreign stufent in their right mind trusts the Trump administration to follow the law?

Beyond that, there are plenty of legal ways to make life miserable for Harvard.

After all, attacking academic freedom is a cornerstone of Project 2025.
 
The only way forward for Trump that I can see is he needs to start sending judges and/or their families to El Salvador prisons. These judges need to learn that you do not mess around or contradict Trump.
 
It's not that Harvard has "refused to bend the knee". It's that they have not been fully responsive to demands for the information that the Trump administration has asked for.

Harvard is finding out that actions...or, in this case, lack of actions...have consequences.

Legal experts have said a lot of shit during Dwsr Leader's reign. I'll believe it when I see it, esp. since this is a POTUS who openly disregards SCOTUS rulings without consequence.

Harvard has been picked out by Trump because of his unerring ability to know exactly which target to attack that will garner him the most praise and loyalty from his followers. Other universities have refused to "bend the knee" but Trump's followers for the most part only recognize the name 'Harvard'. They think it is a pronoun that means all the liberal colleges, universities and their students that they hate.
 
The UK will hapilly take the foreign students that get turned away from the US.

It's also looking like Trump enjoys losing in court as he keeps doing it.

Trump's own State Department has the visa information on every foreign student studying in the US.

The government is not entitled to any other personal information.

Unfortunately, it will continue to harass Harvard and their students with virtual impunity until judges issue and enforce contempt orders. International students will avoid Harvard and any American university that appears to be in the line of fire. Harvard will also exhaust considerable resources fighting to keep their funding and programs functioning. Harvard will likely be used as the example to all other schools that dare to get cross with this administration.

The real loser, of course, will be Americans, who depend on research institutions and their talented students and faculty to do everything from AI to cancer research. I know MAGAs are too dumb to understand this, but one huge advantage the US and other Western nations have over countries like China is the ability to attract bright students and to exchange information and ideas freely. I think the US should invest a lot more into developing its K-12 programs but until it does, this ability to import brain power is a major advantage, and we're throwing it away. And without a good K-12 system, which I've acknowledged, this is potentially economic suicide.
