Donald Trump was asked about the Epstein files again in a meeting with the media on Friday, and his response has folks talking.
“I’m in support of keeping it open,” the president said when asked about the Justice Department sending the files to the House Oversight Committee. “Innocent people shouldn’t be hurt, but I’m in support of keeping it totally open, I couldn’t care less.
“You’ve got a lot of people that could be mentioned in those files that don’t deserve to be,” he added. “Because (Epstein) knew everybody in Palm Beach. I don’t know anything about that, but I have said to (Attorney General) Pam (Bondi) and everybody else, give them everything you can give them because it’s a Democrat hoax.”
Trump was not through.
“So, we had the greatest six months, seven months in the history of the presidency, and the Democrats don’t know what to do so they keep brining up that stuff,” he said.
Trump then claimed the hoax files were created by Democrats and implicated Democrats.
“Bill Clinton was on his plane and went to the island supposedly 28 times. I don’t want to bring that up frankly,” Trump said while bringing it up. “Larry whatever his name is … Summers, he was Jeffery Epstein’s best friend. Nobody ever talks about that. But I don’t want to hurt Larry Summers. But he was best friends with Jeffrey Epstein.
“This is a Democratic hoax to try to get the significance of what we’ve done over the past seven months, nobody has ever seen anything like it,” Trump continued. “They say it’s number-one in history. What we’ve done, including stopping seven wars … just include that.”
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this year that Trump was told by Bondi that he is in the Epstein files. When she reviewed the “truckload” of files that she said she had, she discovered that the president’s name appeared in them multiple times, the outlet reported citing “senior administration officials.”
The site said that Trump was told many other “high-profile figures” were also named.
Being named in the files is not proof that a crime was committed.
The officials who spoke to the Wall Street Journal said that the files contained what they “felt was unverified hearsay about many people, including Trump.” The officials said Trump said at the meeting he would defer to the Justice Department on whether or not to release the files.
Trump is currently suing the Wall Street Journal for its report that he sent Jeffrey Epstein a provocative card with a sketch of a naked woman for his 50th birthday.
Trump was actually named in the “Epstein Files: Phase 1” released by Bondi back in February.

Donald Trump says people are in Epstein files who ‘don’t deserve to be’: ‘It’s a Democratic hoax’
