Does This Make It Better?

...But just minutes into the hour-long session in Butler County, Iowa, the tenor quickly shifted. The crowd grew tense and Ernst appeared flip and defensive.

Ernst was repeatedly peppered with questions about the thousand-page bill, with many attendees focusing on proposed cuts to safety net programs like Medicaid and SNAP. Ernst defended the bill, arguing that those eliminated from these programs would be people who were not eligible to benefit from them in the first place.

"When you're arguing about illegals that are receiving Medicaid benefits, 1.4 million (people) … they are not eligible so they will be coming off," Ernst said.

Someone in the crowd shouted in response: "People are going to die."

"Well, we all are going to die," Ernst responded. "For heaven's sakes, folks," she continued with a smile.

The crowd, which had already grown hostile to Ernst's tone, erupted in roars of disapproval....

Even for a Republican, Ernst's I-don't-give-a-damn-about-my-constituents attitude is baffling. She insults voters, then she flips them off with a dismissive, "For heaven's sakes, folks".

Has she decided not to run for re-election next year?

If Ernst does run for re-election in 2026, these comments will come back to haunt her.

She's a real piece of work. Nothing on loss of healthcare but embrace Jesus. How nice.
I think I know the answer, but do you want all illegal aliens to be covered by the Medicare and MedicAid that you and the rest of us pay for? Do you want millions of people who have no right to be in the country, to be in front of your kids at the Emergency Room?

Ernst claimed that only undocumented migrants would face the loss of benefits. She lied.

...Ernst said the only people who face getting booted are those who should not be on Medicaid in the first place.

“They’re not currently eligible by the original definition of Medicaid, and they will be moved off of those Medicaid rolls, again still allowing those that are truly eligible for Medicaid to remain on those rolls," the senator said.

She later claimed that 1.4 million undocumented immigrants are receiving Medicaid benefits. That figure, which the White House and other top Republicans have also cited, is based on a Congressional Budget Office analysis that said that one provision of the bill would cause 1.4 million people to lose coverage (including but not limited to those without verified immigration status).

"They are not eligible, so they will be coming off," Ernst said, which is when she was interrupted by the attendee who yelled, "People are going to die!"...

Leftist live in this fictional world of good intentions and unlimited resources where you can just spend your way to righteousness. The system is broke and tough choices need to be made to save the system for those who really need and deserve it.

Nice sentiment, but the cuts in the big beautiful bill would affect those "who really need and deserve" them. (Ernst's lie aside.)

She probably will run, and she'll likely win because her voters are just that dumb.
I agree. It's a cult, which means, among other things, that members' sense of self-interest, even of self-preservation, is diminished.

The political left's welfare state is what creates these dirty battles over who gets the free stuff and who has to pay for it. The french economist Frederic Bastiat warned us about this shit over 150 years ago:

But how is this legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish that law without delay. It is not only an evil itself, but also it is a fertile source for further evils because it invites reprisals. If such a law - which may be an isolated case - is not abolished immediately, it will spread, multiply, and develop into a system.

That system is welfare statism.

What does that have to do with defending Medicaid and any federal help for Healthcare? Strawman bullshit, just embrace Jesus, or the orange Jesus. The rural population who voted for this complete asshole are going to lose big time.

Spare us all, including sparing yourself the embarrassment of ignorance, as none of these things are actually about saving money or righting the deficit. These cuts are part of a bill that actually INCREASES the deficit. It is just stuff the Republicans are putting in their reverse Robin Hood scheme (robbing from the poor to give to the rich) to justify tax cuts for the wealthiest of Americans at the expense of the poorest of Americans. If you were really a deficit hawk, you would be against this bill as well. Somehow, however, I suspect you really don't care about deficits.

If you were actually paying attention to American politics, you would know this.

Is that why they had to raise the debt ceiling by 5 trillion? Tough choices? 😆 🤣

Your side is pushing through a bill through Congress that would jack up the deficit. So spare us the phony outrage about government spending.

No, that's not what she said. You, ummm, misspoke. According to YOUR SOURCE,

"Ernst said the only people who face getting booted are those who should not be on Medicaid in the first place.

“They’re not currently eligible by the original definition of Medicaid, and they will be moved off of those Medicaid rolls, again still allowing those that are truly eligible for Medicaid to remain on those rolls," the senator said.

What does that have to do with defending Medicaid and any federal help for Healthcare?
It has to do with who you want to to do the defending and helping for. Those programs, y'know, don't exist in a vacuum. Their cost is driven by the people who benefit from them. Who do you think that should be? Who do you want to pay for, and who do you want adding to the overcrowding of medical service facilities and people?

I didn't misspeak. But it looks as if you have, because you have ignored - deliberately, perhaps? - the entirety of my Post #8:

Ernst claimed that only undocumented migrants would face the loss of benefits. She lied.

Next time, read the entire post to get the full picture, before you accuse someone of "misspeaking". Or not. Your choice.

It's going to hurt the working poor in rural areas the most not that repukes give a shit. Tell me why the debt ceiling had to be raised? As long as hospitals are required to service everyone regardless of ability to pay all this will do will create overcrowded emergency rooms because they were priced out of preventive or cheaper earlier care. Eliminate the insurance profit and salaries would help quite a bit.

Ernst did not say that any identifiable group would be the only people that lose services. She referred to people who shouldn't be on it in the first place AND she referred to illegal aliens. Among the people who shouldn't have been on it in the first place are healthy, single men with no children and who are able to work but not at least seeking employment. The proposed changes in the law would exclude such men from Medicaid. IN ADDITION, Ernst referred to more than a million illegal aliens who would be removed from eligibility. Two groups of people.

I'm going to assume that you misunderstood what she said, but that now you understand.

Twice, now, I've copied and pasted what Ernst said, what I wrote about her words, and what the stats say.

The numbers I provided and the excerpt show her claim that the 1.4 million figure-is-undocumented-migrants-are-the-only-ones-who-would-lose-benefits is a lie. That you want to pretend it wasn't is something I cannot control. But it speaks volumes about you.

It's going to hurt the working poor in rural areas
Please quote the part of the changes in the law that would do that.
Eliminate the insurance profit and salaries would help quite a bit.
And thus you expose your socialized medicine objective. Since that form of medical care delivery is never going to happen in this country, there doesn't seem to be any point in discussing changes to Medicaid that would eliminate anyone from taxpayer funded care.
