Do we really have an immortal soul? What does the Bible say about it? Popular teachings about life after death center around the idea that a person’s soul is immortal and continues to live on after the death of their body. This idea has been very popular throughout history, especially among the Egyptians and Greeks. Most religious and philosophical views about the afterlife suggest that this existence takes place in a spiritual realm, not a physical one. But what does the Bible have to say about life after death?

If we really have a soul then reincarnation becomes a real possibility, no?

Why don't you try posting what you think, rather than somebody else's corny video?

I did not watch the video because this question is one of "core dogma" for Orthodox Christians like me, so there is nothing a video has to say on it (or someone's interpretation of biblical passages.)

Orthodox dogma:

1. The human soul is not eternal by nature, and nor did it exist prior to your creation on earth--there was an early Church heresy rejected by the Church fathers that speculated on an "eternal soul" that pre-existed our physical creation.

2. A human is the body and soul, both are intrinsically important. The soul is created with the body, and the body has important spiritual significance.

3. Death separates the soul from the body--in death we can become eternal through God's grace, but our souls are not eternal by nature.

Lol - you're quite prolific with this video, aren't you?

When we get resurrected - we'll be resurrected with a body too, which will also be immortal.

The Bible indicates that we do have an immortal soul.
Only God can destroy it.

Matthew 10:28

Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Revelation 20:4
Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them.
And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God,
and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

You also want Ecclesiastes? here:

Ecclesiastes 12:7

then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

The soul is not some immortal part of us that lives on in some other realm...the soul that sins will die...Ezekiel 18:4...we all sin so we all die...the idea of an immortal soul originated with paganism...

Might I suggest the Theology forum?
