"An information technology specialist for the Defense Intelligence Agency was charged Thursday with attempting to transmit classified information to a representative of a foreign government, the Justice Department said." What is darkly amusing about reading this was that he worked in the Insider Threats Division of the Defense Intelligence Agency, and that the nation he tried to pass the secrets to alerted the FBI. What happened to the level of quality in espionage such as the likes of Larry Wu-tai Chin, who provided information from within the CIA for nearly 30 years, until his arrest in 1985? *winks*

This is the best part:

“he worked in the Insider Threats Division of the Defense Intelligence Agency, and that the nation he tried to pass the secrets to alerted the FBI.”

So the U.S. lucked out by having the potential beneficiary country in this espionage warn us? That was certainly a positive for us. But the sad fact is that our counterintelligence operations have a history of being outwitted by the communist countries of the former USSR, China, and even little Cuba. The Cubans had infiltrated the State Department at the highest levels. The Chinese have been very successful in getting the plans and designs of our military technology. We all have heard of soviet espionage successes by having well placed U.S. communists in the defense industries. Our own FBI and CIA were embarrassed by homegrown turncoats who spied against us for money and did so for years.
