Forgott to add the poll. Possible answers are "yes" or "no", of course
Could you recognize the lyrics of your national anthem?
Could you sing it?
Do you think it is important to know it? Why?
I think that most people worldwide know their national anthem, particularly more patriotic countries like in the USA or in France.
However, this is not the case in my country.
I'm not a stupid dumbass (I think) and I do not even know the first verse. I know the music but not the lyrics.
Our prime minister, when asked to sing the Brabançonne (our anthem), confused it with the Marseillaise (French anthem).
YouTube - Yves Leterme
(first, he says the 21th July is the date of the declaration of independance while it is the arrival of our first king, and on 55' he sings the French anthem)
That's the same with our regional anthem (the "song of the Walloons")
YouTube - Le chant des wallons
That's in front of the walloon parliament. The journalist asks the members of the parliaments and the senators
"are you proud to be Walloon?"
"of course", "yes!"
Then, he says the first verse of the Walloon anthem ("Behold the triumph of her industry") as if it was a question
(answer of the ministers, who did not see that it was) "yeah I'm not sure it is true" "it was true in the past indeed" (they don't recognize it is the anthem)
"these sentences do not remember you anything"?
"no" "not at all" "no" "I don't see what you're talking about":rofl
