Do you drink alcohol?

Do you consume alcohol?

My alcohol consumption has declined by quite a bit due to just being busy with other things.

Got a note from the universe that I had used up my lifetime allotment.

I do a glass of wine or two on Christmas Eve. Did champaign on election night 2024. Other than that, the rare bottle of Coors banquet, less than the equivalent of a 12 pack over a year.
I always hold the stupid champagne glass (or a water goblet) when someone makes a toast. I've been told it is bad etiquette to toast with water. In my opinion, it is fatuous to play with champagne.

I have two beers, or one beer & one margarita a week.

Beer goes well with pizza. A glass of wine at bedtime can loosen up sore/cramping muscles. Otherwise--rarely.

Interesting trend in alcohol consumption

Not ONE DROP since May 21, 1988.

The reason should be obvious

An alcoholic is a large part of why I probably never took it up. Not my parent, but my parent's parent. I was raised with stories about waiting outside then steering from the lap on the way home from bars before they were a teenager. I was taught to drive the same way, minus the alcohol. I also smelled and saw the results myself when we visited. It was an early warning sign. Their older sibling followed suit and so they strongly moderated and I learned the same.

That and the availability and superiority of marijuana.

YES!

High grade sativa is proof there might be a god

I work in the industry, so my tasting basically is it: I don't drink socially anymore, perhaps a glass or two during the week.

Which is probably a good thing if no other reason than the current tariffs are driving up prices again.

I voted no since it has been nearly a year ago when I last had an alcoholic beverage.

When my kids who are now in their 40’s were young, my wife and I stopped drinking to set an example. When the kids became adults, we just never found a reason to start again.
Likewise. My wife has never been a drinker, I drank a bit for a few years, but not usually more than at a party when I was single. A true social drinker I guess. When we got married, we never had alcohol in the house. My daughter made the comment a few weeks ago to her husband, they have kids 7 and 4, that she never saw either parent take a drink until she was grown nd out of college and she's the youngest. I like an occasional bloody mary, wine or chianti at dinner mostly when we are traveling. Last drink I had was at maybe March, a shot of Limoncello I brought back from Rome and before that november 24 in Rome at dinner, a nice chianti classico.

But smoking is just unpleasant.
I personally do not like to smoke it. I like gummies and several different beverages. Brands like Bayou city Hemp make incredibly good tasting canned drinks that range for low dose 2.5 up to 10 mg of THC per can.
The low dose offer a nice relaxed feeling that hits quickly and fades out fairly soon so you can enjoy them socially.

A nice bourbon or two will do the same.

Alcohol hit me differently. I used to like an occasional martini or scotch when out but i never felt that great the next day. THC drinks taste better and wake up fine the next morning.

I grew up in an abstaining household. My father was a young party animal who joined AA and quit drinking. I think at my mother's suggestion 😆

I quit drinking altogether about 20 years ago and didn't touch it for about 15 or so years. Now I have an occasional glass of wine, probably a few times a month.

My dad very rarely drank, while my mom generally drank wine.

My extended family on my mom's side generally had liquor shelves that could put liquor stores to shame.

On the other.

The one time that my dad's mom came to visit from the Methodist Home in Washington DC, I remember my parents frantically hiding everything in the house that could possible even be associated with alcohol. I was about 10 at the time. The TV remained off during her entire visit.

I learned later that she was a lifelong Prohibitionist, absolutely hated alcohol. Probably a good thing that she was only able to make that one visit. 😄

I definitely took after my mom's side of the family when it came to alcohol.

I am a fairly moderate drinker, scotch and such or wine a couple of times a week, maybe one or two drinks.

As I said earlier, I rarely drink, but when I do.......j
Anyway, if I lived in Italy I'd probably drink a lot more. I have a couple of places staked out at the Pantheon Square that I could sit and people watch and have a chianti or an aperitivo spritz with a nice variety of light snacks for a few hours and enjoy good company. As it is I go once or twice a year and play catchup.

I have no rule to NOT drink. I just never feel like it.

Had to have a tall Blue Moon at the Mets game last night. What a mess. Still had a nice time. Late lunch at Austin's Ale House (Wolfhound red ale) and fireworks to cap it off.
Generally don't drink unless I'm out like yesterday. Maybe a beer while bowling or a bloody Mary at brunch.

Only when scrolling through DP posts.....

In all seriousness, I do have a glass of wine per day at or around dinner. I have one in my hand at the moment.

Whisky (Scotch) helps when I find myself confronted with yet more maga delusions🤯

I like an ice cold beer on a hot day. A fine wine with a nice meal. And a good Scotch by the fire later in the evening. Occasionally the Scotch becomes a very nice port. If I am at a restaurant for lunch or dinner, a beer or wine (sometimes two) is usually part of the meal. On the other hand, i can tell you that the last time I got seriously inebriated was in 1993. I no longer drink to excess, and have a very low tolerance for drunks these days.

But smoking is just unpleasant.

Vape. Every time I land in California, Colorado, Washington, or any other state where weed is legal, my first stop is a dispensary to buy a disposable vape. My second time in Amsterdam, we walked into a coffee shop and bought weed. We sat down and used volcano for the first time. I'm not sure if that's smoke or not. My understanding is inhaling the smoke due to the burning of the plant is worse for your lungs.

I interned at Shell in 2003. I know most of the cohort, and we were all rising seniors, but I was only 20 and basically all the other interns were 21. ID's were easier to fake back then, and the first time it worked my demeanor changed and it worked the rest of the summer. It was 10 weeks where I spent more nights drinking than not.

I still drink but much less so now. We're about to head to a bar to watch UFC 319, but I'll probably have one beer and hour at most.

I miss it greatly. Far too much medication to drink.

However, someone one chooses to make a toast is fine with me. Some use apple juice.
