The claim by the government is that it will attract skilled workers to new zealand "The change will enable many visitors to extend their stays, which will lead to more money being spent in the country," Good for our economy supposedly. But what is in it for you?

People visiting New Zealand on short stays will be allowed to work remotely for their employers back home under a “digital nomad” scheme launched by the Government on Monday.
The concept, which is popular overseas, allows visitors to travel New Zealand while continuing to work for their offshore employer.
Unlike similar schemes overseas which use a special visa, the Government’s scheme will be bolted on to New Zealand’s existing visitor visa scheme, meaning people visiting New Zealand on an ordinary tourist visa can continue working for their foreign employer.
People visiting New Zealand from a visa waiver country like the United States, Japan, South Korea, Argentina, Israel, and the European Union will be able to work as part of their visa.
Willis said these visitors will be able to extend their stays in New Zealand, turning a visitor visa, giving people up to nine months in the country - up from three to six months currently.

Wait. Are you not supposed to work remotely while in other countries?

My apology I was talking about legally entering a country to work. Possibly a concept americans are unfamiliar with.

I was thinking legally entering the country as a tourist and then doing work if needed. Not finding a job in another country under the table.

Not quite what the bill says. You can live in nz for nine months but you have to be employed by an overseas company. So it is basically for people who can work digitally with their over seas employer.
We already have a workers scheme for employing workers on farms and in the entertainment industry that is seasonal based, RSE
This scheme hopes to attract workers with higher skills than farm laborours or waiters.
