So did the other dude. A guy cannot be faulted for occupying space in a public place. There's no law against that. The initiator of everything was the loud mouth who got his just deserts.
Never said it wasn't public space, but thanks for the strawman. Hey, next time you encounter a drunk idiot and you stop and verbally engage him and he pushes you, then by all means punch him as hard as you can if it makes you feel good. I just wouldn't rely on your argument being successful after both of you are arrested for fighting (or disorderly conduct, or whatever the cops would write it down as).
It wasn't a strawman, you want to place blame on the dude for standing around some asshole running his mouth in a public place.
He's not at fault for standing there, he's free to do it.
The man who put his hands on the other dude is the one at fault, he initiated force and violence. Everything before that point was fine.
Man, so much for "personal responsibility" from you "conservatives", huh.
Wrong. I acknowledged the drunk asshole was the one who instigated it. If arrests had been made, he would have been one of the people arrested.
He took on fault when he involved himself in the incident.
You're selectively applying the phrase "personal responsibility." The video doesn't show how this nonsense started, but it's clear that the drunk idiot had the choice to de-escalate and walk off, which he clearly did not do. The guy who threw the punch has his own personal responsibility in that he too could have de-escalated and not involve himself in what appeared to be someone else's problem. I seem to understand how this personal responsibility thing works a bit better than you.
Watch the video and judge for yourselves.
Well you know, if you want to allow yourself to be pushed around by drunken racists, have at it. Be pushed around as much as you want by others. But I won't blame the man for smacking some dude who has been aggressive, belligerent, and then initiates physical conflict. Actions have consequences, this dude got his.
Well, funny thing is that I don't find myself in fights...ever. The last time I was in a fight was back in college when (and I swear my involvement in this thread wasn't about this, I only remembered the incident just now) I came across a loud mouth drunk at a party and I, genius that I was, decided to give him crap for being a drunk asshole. Aaand he started a fight with me before his friends pulled him away. But I can tell you now that I don't hang around belligerent drunk people, and when I find myself around them I tend to move away from them because drunken, belligerent idiots tend to do drunk, belligerent things. And if a drunk idiot did push me, I can guarantee you I didn't know it was going to happen until it happened or that I had no way to distance myself from him. At that point, anything I would do would qualify as self defense.
But like I said, put yourself in the same situation that Punching Man in that video put himself in, then when the both of you are arrested let us know how your argument works for you because I can promise you we'd all love to hear about it.
Yeah, a one punch and done won't be caught by the cops less the cops happen to be on scene at the time.
Sorry, sometimes people run their mouths too much and get popped in the mouth for the effort. It's easy not to get into confrontation by kowtowing to everyone around you and not stating opinion and not standing up for yourself, but not all take that path. A man puts his hands on another, he has initiated force and force can be resisted. That's the end all be all. Words are all fine and good, but physical altercation is a different game.
So every time Bruce Lee spent the first hour of a movie avoiding being drawn into a fight (you know, until the last fifteen minutes when he kicked every ass that was ever born) he was "kowtowing?"
I call being dragged into stupid fights that have nothing to do with me, don't involve threats to my loved ones and contain no benefits, to be weak and worse, out of control. We have a word for people who have low impulse control. They're usually in jail, and they're called "losers."

Oh come on, the guy who was pushed didn't have to be there. He could have just gone on his merry way and enjoyed the rest of his evening sans drunk asshole, but no, he had to stop and enjoy the spectacle. And not only did he just have to be there, he also had to verbally involve himself. And look at the video again: the very instant he was pushed, it was like his birthday, Christmas, and New Years all rolled into one and he instantly took the shot. There was no "Oh crap, this drunk asshole is shoving me!" just instantly decking him as hard as he could. The guy who threw the punch was clearly looking for trouble, found it, escalated it and enjoyed every moment of it -- he wasn't innocent, being a part of that incident was his choice. Both those assholes should do community service for being idiots for contributing in their own little way to dragging the human race down.
Saying that guy was "defending himself" does an incredible disservice to actual innocent people who are just trying to mind their own business and are assaulted anyway.
At 1:58 the dude chooses a new target when the chick left. He Chose poorly.
The black gentleman stood his ground. I applaud him.
I also applaud his restraint, I would have kicked the guys teeth in, and smashed the camera phone.
Meh. I would have fired a Hodoken at him, punched through his ribcage and grabbed his still-beating heart, taken a bite of it and said, "The guy just didn't have his heart in it." [Cue main theme from Robocop]
Cool.
see my point though, watch the video, he decided to confront the closest onlooker and shoved him, got punched in the face for it.
Or I could have spun kicked him into a meat freezer and yelled "Hey buddy...time to chill out."
I'm sure that the f-bomb was popular long before your generation - the major taboo was against using it in the company of the opposite sex.
Thank you OV..I was just wondering why he adopted this stance..Did something happen before? Although I am not OK with his comments...Doormen on night club duty are not known for their IQ's
I need to see the whole picture..maybe the black guy's were being racist to him..who knows?....
Or maybe he was just a bigot?
Et tu, Lizzie? Seriously? Is this a ****ing playground in junior highschool or something?
He made the first aggressive move. The response was completely justified and within reason.
The only problem I have with the "f-bomb" is how it seems to have taken over and replaced all the more creative curses our ancestors used.
Nope, just saying that if you put your hands on someone, you might be eating a knuckle sandwich. Keep your hands to yourself if you don't want to get popped in the mouth.
