So it seems they had a deal wrapped up in Ukraine between Z's team and Kellogg. They wanted to get it signed but Zelensky's side wanted to do it in DC. Kellogg advised against it.

Kellogg “advised against it, knowing that the relationship [between the presidents] needed to be strengthened” before meeting in-person, according to the official.

However, a source familiar with Yermak’s tactics said Zelensky’s office “continued to force the issue.”

Kellogg was ready to walk away, nearly leaving Ukraine without a deal to present Trump.

However, Zelensky’s office reversed course at the last minute after the retired general boarded his train to Poland, apparently recognizing Kellogg was their best shot at mending frayed relations with the US president.

Now, did Kellogg know that Trump and Vance would goad him, or did he just recognize that the two teams wouldn't do well together?

Something to think about.

I'd bet he know. But then it doesn't take a genius to figure out how Trump and Vance would act.

General Kellogg was used by Trump. I think he most definitely believed in his mission. Trump used every bit of information he received from Kellogg to use against Zelenskyy. Trump’s final act was staged to thoroughly humiliate Zelenskyy.
