Magnum 6.0, and it's shallow, which is worse for some types of construction.

"Children are under the rubble. The elderly are under the rubble. Young people are under the rubble," said the villager, who did not give his name.

"We need help here," he pleaded. "We need people to come here and join us. Let us pull out the people who are buried. There is no one who can come and remove dead bodies from under the rubble."

Not sure where help will come from. Pakistan is dealing with the effects of the same quake.
 
What a desperate situation. Hopefully aid will be forthcoming from neighboring countries.
 
This is horrible, and the situation was already bad when the US cut aid to Afghanistan.

I lost count of the number of earthquakes I experienced in Afghanistan over the years; Afghanistan sits on top of at least a half dozen or more fault lines, some of which stretch from northern Pakistan all the way through to southern Iran.
