All that covered, I think the police should be unburdened of social services functions, and credentialed, professional "do-gooders" should be doing those jobs. I want health inspectors, and not treatment plant managers, in kitchens, too.

What's odd, to me, is that anyone would want people with a different remit, training and job description (like patrolmen) to do social services.
