The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee vowed Tuesday to go to court if necessary to seek former White House Counsel Don McGahn's testimony, after he defied a subpoena and skipped a committee hearing at President Trump's direction.
The move infuriated Democrats and touched off what could be another high-profile battle over holding a Trump official in contempt of Congress.
“Let me be clear, this committee will hear Mr. McGahn's testimony, even if we have to go to court to secure it,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y, said at the beginning of the hearing which McGahn did not attend.
Accusing Trump of witness intimidation, Nadler added, “When this committee issues a subpoena, even to a senior presidential adviser, the witness must show up. Our subpoenas are not optional.”

When isn't Nadler and the House Judiciary Committee fuming?
Obviously, they're so fumed up they refuse to recognize that McGahn cannot be compelled to testify about his official duties.
Its bad for his law firm's business. The House must feel like a lonely outpost of freedom and democracy at this point.
Care to speculate on why Trump wants to muzzle him - not that he can keep him from appearing.
You should familiarize yourself with facts before guessing.
The attorneys for McGahn made the decision for him not to appear, and not Trump.

In a letter to Nadler, McGahn attorney William Burck said his client won't show up. Burck said current White House Counsel Pat Cipollone had communicated that Trump had instructed McGahn not to testify, and that Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel Steven Engel had said McGahn was immune from testifying.
"Mr. McGahn understands from your prior correspondence that the Committee would vote to hold him in contempt should he not appear tomorrow and the House of Representatives may follow suit," Burck wrote to Nadler. "While we disagree with the Committee’s position and hope it will instead seek an accommodation with the White House, Mr. McGahn also must honor his ethical and legal obligations as a former senior lawyer and senior advisor to the President. In short, it is our view that the Committee’s dispute is not with Mr. McGahn but with the White House."
Burck added: "Mr. McGahn remains obligated to maintain the status quo and respect the President’s instruction. In the event an accommodation is agreed between the Committee and the White House, Mr. McGahn will of course comply with that accommodation."

Don't waste your time Trix........ It won't help!
They have hours of his testimony given to Muller but they want a dog and pony show for TV. Not going to happen.
They are not looking for facts just the drama!

Yes, I'd like to hear too.
I think it's about time the Trumpists, who are suddenly all experts at constitutional law, are so certain none of his people ever has to answer to Congress. Would it have been alright for Clinton to refuse to turn up for the Benghazi hearings? If so, what would be her premise? Was it alright when Holder blew them off too then? On what grounds?
But most of all what would be the reason Team trump doesn't want to answer any questions? Let me guess, that old favorite 'national security'?
My guess is you won't be hearing an answer for a while J.

He shouldn't waste his time familiarizing himself with his own source. I hear you. Facts just get in the way.
Why do you think Trump told him not to do it? Why wouldn't Trump appaer before Mueller? Why is he stonewalling Congress on everything?
You know as well as I know that Trump is, if nothing else, corrupt. And you all are supporting him his tearing apart constitutional government.
I can't wait for impeachment.
That's really going to be the real show I won't miss.
I think our president is waiting for that one to begin too.
Do you think Pelosi could be that dumb?

This is pretty amusing to read.
IF you had bothered to thoroughly read the source in the O/P, a hyperlink that was bolded, MCGAHN CONFIRMS HE WILL SKIP HOUSE HEARING, AS DOJ ASSERTS 'IMMUNITY', would have brought you to the facts as to why McGahn's attorneys would not allow their client to appear.
Got anything else?
Yeah, I didn't think so.
Or principled?
Even that doesn't say his lawyers forbade it.

Do you honestly think Twump is itching for an impeachment battle? He's terrified of it. It will mean weeks and months of congressional hearings where all his dirty laundry is laid out. At the end it is unlikely he'll be removed unless the Senate grows a spine, but it'll sink his reelection chances. In fact, if SDNY carries on, it may come out by then he'll be disqualified from running again.

Then why does the link from Fox News in your OP say this:

They are leading us towards a Russian type of oligarchy. And that is not very pretty.
